New nanny & extended family wanting to call in

I have a nanny starting in two weeks. I have never employed one before. My extended family have started telling me how great this is as they can drop in & see the kids whenever they like as the nanny will be home with them. Is this usually considered ok? I would have thought it might be a bit stressful for the nanny.

Hey boss, you have to make an appointment and get my agreement, before you come into the workplace you own and see what I, your employee, who you pay, am doing with your grandchild.?!

Grandparent is not the boss, it is not their home, it is not the same as a parent coming home at random times.

Do your parents randomly turn up at your home, or do you expect some notice before they come to stay, be that for a few hours or a few days?

amarmai sounds like a throwback to the days of Downton Abbey, when employees were treated with contempt.

A professional nanny will be far too busy doing her job to be bothering with entertaining your inlaws dropping in unannounced.

Since parents are held hostage by the fear of losing a nanny who their cc have become attached too, there is a danger of them tipping the employer/employee balance too far in their favour. Grandparents and other family members should be able to visit the cc. There is no big deal about it. They shd coordinate with the parents of course. The nanny shd not be allowed to control this.
