Runny nappies x 3 yellow In colour

Just wondering if I'm being unreasonable?
I'm a childminder.

Child seemed ok in himself however he has had 3 very runny nappies within 2 hours of arriving, they have an awful smell to them and I have had to change his clothes twice as they have leaked through.
He is also a bit hot to touch.

I have asked parent to collect as I have another 2 mindees here and to be honest none of us want a bug,
Parents are adamant it's his teeth and they are putting him back tomorrow, they are not happy that I contacted them at work.

My policy states that they do not attend if they have sickness or diarrhoea for 48hrs.

What's your opinion?
Thanks in advance

That's the rule at my local day nursery, also at the nursery attached to the school and the school itself.

You're being perfectly reasonable and rational - you have other mindees to consider.

Parents are being ridiculous, they must know your policy, their child is ill. I don't have any suggestions though, other than repeating your policy to them.

Thanks for your reply much appreciated
I think I just need to get stronger I know myself I was right in sending home just been made to feel guilty now and unreasonable I have received 3 texts saying she could collect him from mine if he's unwell but he's not so she thinks he should still attend...ah the Joys!

you tell them at pick up that it's 48 hours clear of diarrhoea and that if you pick up the bug then they will be more inconvenienced than a couple of days off with their own child. Also have an ear thermometer with disposable tips in your setting so that you can measure the child's temp...no arguing with a temperature plus runny poo......teeth don't cause a high temp.

In my house I also look after my own children...if we all get a d and v bug it can take up to 2 weeks to go through all of us

I question the parents. Baby is hot to the touch and yet their needs and convenience trumps baby's well-being? Confused YANBU at all and I would be insistent. Make it incredibly clear that this isn't just your policy but the general policy upheld by childminders and nurseries. And there is a stomach bug going- runny bum, fever, no vomiting. Two of my kids have had it this week and the kids in their classes as well. Two mothers I know had it last week.

As A c minder.. I am very clear with my parents at meeting. I am very strict on my 48 hour policy and that it works both ways.

You should have a sickness policy.. Tell her you are following policy and expect him to collected and When she arrives inform her , DC is excluded for 48 hours.

I always make sure I tell parents stories ( true ones) of how sickness bugs have got not only through my household but also the childrens.

In your shoes, I would terminate the contract.

What on earth do they mean, they are sending him tomorrow?? That is not their decision to make: it's yours.

They aren't prepared to adhere to your policies and they are trying to bully you into putting everyone else at risk. Really, you don't need parents like this.

HSMMaCM · 08/10/2015 16:06

I would definitely send home and exclude for 48 hours. If they have responded this way though, how do you know if they will tell you the last time the child has had diarrhea, or whether they will just send him back after the 48 hours from the last one you saw? I find parents who react like this are usually the first to complain if their child brings home a bug started by another child. If they bring him back tomorrow, do not let them through the front door. You have made your policy clear.

My DD does get a temp when teething, just need to point that out.

OP you are not in the wrong.
