I would like to take this opportunity to thank those on Mumsnet, who have assisted me, over the years.

I finished childminding, yesterday, as I have another job. It was not an easy decision, but one which was necessary to meet the needs of my family. Childminding has given me so much on- the -job -training. I have taken advantage of training that was provided, especially if free.

It’s been an awesome journey, during the seven years of childminding. I have had good times and also times when I have cried. I have cared for over 25 children, during this time.

I don’t regret childminding. It allowed me to look after my four children, whilst bringing in an income. I never tried to be mum to the c m children, but worked in partnership with the parents, using my services. I’ve had very busy times and also times when hardly any one used my services.

If you are just entering into childminding, please ensure the hours etc you choose are right for your family, don’t be afraid to say NO, when you need to, take payment in advance, nip things in the bud that you don’t want to continue (i.e. early drop offs without notice), ensure you get support from parents of children who are challenging, to name but a few things.

I feel a little emotional but yet excited at the same time.

Thank you once again

Mum2Bless - Good luck with your new career. You've given me some useful advice in the past, so don't abandon us.

Enjoy your clutter free home.

MUM2BLESS · 30/09/2015 16:49

Thanks HSMMaCM.

Sometimes we don't realise how busy we get as cms, until we stop.

I am wiser, sharper with risk assessment, got lots of certificates, etc etc

My youngest is now at senior so its a new chapter in an interesting book !!!

Congratulations on your new career. Flowers I'm sure your mindees have all flourished under your care and now that your own DCs are that bit older it's great that you can move on and start something new.

I'm dipping a toe into CMing but not really doing it whole heartedly as it is really just a handy job to fit in with the DCs. Having read your post, I think I need to start taking it more seriously, take advantage of the training and think about how I can achieve more for both myself and my mindees.

Thanks Mark....

Whilst I was childminding I tried to give it my all. Not just a job but an extension of home to home. There were times when I didn't always feel I wanted to cm, but I bounced back.

In the latter stages I knew I had made the right decision to leave cm'ing.

Most things were free when I stared, not now. Take advantage of any training. Looks very good on your CV too. Attend networks, childminding groups and any courses that will help you to be the best you can be,

Mum2bless-do you know what you are going to do now? You have given me useful advice in the past.I am sad to hear you are leaving childminding

I too have four children. I have been childminding for nearly 2 years. I agree about trying to work the hours that suit your family and thankfully I haven't had any challenging children. Though understand you would need to get the parent on board for that.

Wishing you loads of success in your new adventure.

Thanks trickydickie

Childminding is a very flexible career, not many jobs that allow you to do what cm does. Your home for deliveries, pick up your kids yourself, involve you own kids in things you plan for the cm kids etc etc.

Got it challenges too.

Now my kids are older I am now taking time out for myself. I'm still mum but they need me i a different way.
