CM Club. Do you charge full rates or half rates when mindees are ill

I'm just curious. I mind a little boy every day from 12 noon till 5.30. I had no room for older child so his sister goes after school to CM round the corner.
Anyway, older sister was sent home sick on Monday, and dad came to collect wee boy from me. he said that since the girl was going to be off the following day, he would just keep the boy at home as well.
I spoke to the girls CM today and she mentioned in passing that she charges full rates when her mindees are ill. I usually charge half rates when a mindee is ill. However, i thought about it after, and the wee boy wasn't actually sick, just his sister.
So i wondered if any other Cm's charge full rates or half rates when mindees are ill

i charge full rates! and you should too!!!
particually in this case when the mindee is not even ill!

full, you're available to work

I have always charged half rates - simply because that's what i was advised to do when i first registered many years ago!. You're right though, the boy wasn't even ill, so i will charge full rates for him!

I always pay my cm full rates if kids are ill

KaySamuels · 01/12/2006 17:33

I have always charged half fee if mindees are off at short notice - and parents really take the P with it!

Wish I had said full fee from the start now, it seems hard to change it now as I hate confrontation. Some have complained in the past about paying half fee and my full rate is only £2.50 p.h.!!!

Any advice on how to go about it?? Please help me! ...hope you don't mind saltire?

I have alway charged full rate if the child is sick and not at all if I am sick and can't work - or if my children are infectious (with more than a cold) and they don't want to send their children.
I have never had to change a contract like that, but would suggest that the next time it is up for reveiw send a letter saying thiat as form X date the charge for children off sick will be... and see what happens.

KaySamuels - when I first registered, I only charged half fee if children were off sick, which is what most local minders did. As time passed, I realised that some minders were charging full fee - I started doing the same immediately for any new mindees. I changed it for existing mindees when my annual rate increase was due. I'd warned everyone in advance, and no-one had a problem with it.

yes will have a check when contracts are up to be reviewed, I put my rates up slightly last year and am pretty sure I got all families review dates inline so they were all at the same time. Just worried about losing business as a new childminder has opened shop in my area and she lives on the same street as the majority of my 9 mindees families!!
