She is lovely. DC all like her.
And I feel sick.
We had hellish year and so needed 6 months of stability.

Debating an au pair. Can one be found and all in place in 4 weeks.

Tuning awful as most set up now I'd guess with schools about to start

Expect there are quite a few nannies still looking for work for Sept start. Depends on your location though, are you in an area with lots of nannies? Not sure about au-pairs, some may be finishing summer work and looking to stay on but will that be permanent?

Duckstar · 24/08/2015 15:11

I was speaking to a nanny agency today (finalising contract for new nanny starting in September) and they said they have Nanny's looking for work straightaway. Some employers tell Nanny they are keeping them on when children start school and a month before school starts say they don't need them/need to drastically reduce their hours. So if you would like a Nanny do give an agency a call.

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/08/2015 22:51

What age are your children. What days and hours and area?

JugglingChaotically · 29/08/2015 05:52

Sorry for delay coming back. Normally use the App.
I've had my head in the sand I'm afraid.
Good to know nannies might be available.
We only need after school hours plus more in term time and then longer cover in holidays. (Though can cover most of hols in other ways.)
We're in Surrey/London borders.
Youngest is 8 so debating au pair but we have really got time to arrange that if visa required. Nanny housekeeper would be ideal as then I could cover holidays in different ways but justify longer hours in term time. Good to have the same person rather than split hours between cleaner and nanny/au pair.
Spoke to a couple of agencies.
One helpful but not hopeful.
One helpful but £££££ and will simply advertise and then sort applications.
Have been asking round but no one aware of anyone looking for part time.
How does one find student?
I have asked at DCs old nursery as it was mornings only.
What is best way to advertise for au pair - au pair world?
What is going rate?
Have now told the children - have to as have cleared the weekend to deal with it - what a waste of last weekend of the hols.
DCs really sad.
Help???

Ask current nanny for help/advice. Maybe she knows someone or can suggest where to look.

JugglingChaotically · 29/08/2015 06:13

Current nanny now mentally focused forward.
Previous nannies have helped with this but sadly I don't think she will.
She decided to move on.
The timing is awful and she knows that.
Part time roles are hard to fill, can't get an au pair at short notice and 2 of my 3 DCs are starting new schools this term.
More notice would have made so much difference.

OP posts:
Thermomix · 29/08/2015 07:30

Put longer notice period in next contract. 6 weeks perhaps.
You will need to offer very good rate of pay for after school nanny.

Advertise on gumtree. You can find very good candidates, less experienced in 'nanny' role more big sister learning to be nanny.
Someone perhaps teaching/coaching children/toddler classes during school hours.
Just a thought.

JugglingChaotically · 29/08/2015 07:49

Had our long term amazing nanny on 3 months when DC were little!
But we both agreed when it was time to move on we would chat about it. She only left when we moved almost 5 years later and we gave her lots of notice.
Got burned in past with nanny who turned out to be awful and 1 month was too long.
In hindsight I should have stepped up notice so it went up after 6 months, and 12 months etc. I had expected she would talk to me or at least tell me face to face not just email!
Will try gumtree. Have cleared the weekend in preparation.
Student would be ideal!

BoffinMum · 29/08/2015 07:49

Bad luck. I would second the Gumtree suggestion and also put an advertisement on AuPairWorld. You might be lucky and it is actually a good time of year to look.

JugglingChaotically · 29/08/2015 08:23

Thanks. Had thought it was awful time and everyone organised for new term. Great to hear otherwise.
Will do gumtree and au pair world.
Done gumtree before.
New to APW. Any advice on using that site? How to make sure person is who they say they are etc.
Spoke to agency but they just post and filter.
thanks.

Be a bit discreet about your first names and exact location online but put a happy family picture up there. Ask for photocopies of identity documents, medical certificates, qualifications and police checks to be sent by email in advance of interview. Ask for English speaking references and phone one up to check veracity. Do not send any money ever, no matter what the sob story about not having the fare.

Anon2309 · 29/08/2015 12:18

Join au pair groups on facebook. Plenty of girls are looking for families. The going rate for London au pairs are anywhere start at £80 (but most usually include a buss pass and phone credit with that) for 20-25 hrs. Usual is about £90-100 plus phone/buss pass(or oyster credit) or gym

JugglingChaotically · 29/08/2015 20:19

Thanks boffin. Good advice.

JugglingChaotically · 29/08/2015 20:23

Anon. What is the edge of London rate for au pair plus?
If we give Oyster card plus i-phone and wifi, TV, say Amazon box for Amazon prime etc, wireless speaker for iPhone in room, large bedroom, ensuite shower room.

I have an agency that provides home help staff (including nannies and mothers helps) im in totally other end of the country to you though - I recommend all the places above but also indeed (it's a job search site) specify on the ad to only applying they have x amount of experience. You have to trawl through a LOT of replies, but I've found a lot of staff that way. Good luck Flowers

twirlypoo · 29/08/2015 20:26

Oh ffs, sorry about grammar / spelling. My phone has mind of its own tonight!

Anon2309 · 29/08/2015 20:32

Up to 35 hrs about £130-£140

JugglingChaotically · 29/08/2015 20:33

Thanks,Twirlypoo.
Is the website Indeed?
Have cleared the diary tomorrow to post then trail through replies. ????

OP posts:
JugglingChaotically · 29/08/2015 20:40

Anon. Zone 1-4 Oyster card is £177 a month! Would you include that? With £40 on top for a phone then that £220/month. So plus £50/week.
Total then £180/week.
Is that about right?

OP posts:
JugglingChaotically · 29/08/2015 20:41

Or £190 if £140 base?

OP posts:
Anon2309 · 30/08/2015 14:27

I'd give £130/£140, £15 phone and/OR £20 bus pass. That is more than enough. Or simply give £150 that's a lot as it is. But the thing is it looks better if you give £130 and say £20 bus pass and £10, that's £160 a week and seems wow, instead of giving just £150 (which is great as it it) without the extras.

JugglingChaotically · 30/08/2015 22:22

Thanks for that Anon
There are so many different rates out there.
Some say £100 but one agency said £250!
Will go for £130 plus bus pass which would be good to have for work anyway.
Will hold fire on phone for now.
