Nanny not providing photos for school homework

Hi

I don't think there is anything I can do but my nanny has just handed in her notice and promptly gone sick. (with sick note)

She has on her phone some pics she took of the children doing their summer homework which they need to compile a scrapbook for school.

I have asked her to forward them so the girls can do their homework but to date she has not been forthcoming. Of course, it may just be she has been too sick to do anything. But I have a bad feeling about this!

Is there anything I can do to get the pics for the children to do their homework?

Recreate them?

Tell the school it can't be done?

Coffeemarkone · 14/08/2015 14:06

probably not, just ask her again I suppose.
You could take some different pics couldn't you?
Just pose the kids and snap away, they don't have to be genuine surely?

YonicScrewdriver · 14/08/2015 14:06

The summer is still going on - can you repose the photos yourself?

YonicScrewdriver · 14/08/2015 14:07

But you shouldn't be expecting work from an employee with a sick note anyway.

Findtheoldme · 14/08/2015 14:10

If she is being spiteful I'd be take my time paying her sick pay. Nannies like her - if not genuinely unable to send - give decent nannies a bad name.

YonicScrewdriver · 14/08/2015 14:12

What a horrible post Find.

If you were sufficiently sick to get a sick note and your employer emailed you with a non urgent not critical request, would you think it fair not to receive sick pay if you hadn't replied.

Sick pay is contractual - do what your contract says OP.

Findtheoldme · 14/08/2015 14:14

I just find it frustrating when people don't act like a grown up. It seems very suspicious to quit and the have the notice period off as sick. It doesn't sound like a good working relationship/mature person.

NewLife4Me · 14/08/2015 14:15

Take the kids out and take some photos of them doing things in their holidays. There's still loads of time and your dc will appreciate you taking the time to do this with them.

YonicScrewdriver · 14/08/2015 14:17

If she has a sick note, OP is unlikely to challenge this. She is behaving as per her contractual requirements - it's not "grown up" to advise OP to do otherwise.

G1veMeStrength · 14/08/2015 14:17

Is it a work phone that you pay for? If it is in your name etc maybe the phone company could get them off the cloud for you. (or something)

YonicScrewdriver · 14/08/2015 14:17

Oh, and she may or may not be sick for the whole notice period - who can say?

Findtheoldme · 14/08/2015 14:23

Sending photos by email is hardly onerous.

YonicScrewdriver · 14/08/2015 14:32

Not an answer to my question find - would you be happy if your employer delayed sick pay for you not responding to an email when sick?

youarekiddingme · 14/08/2015 14:42

For all anyone knows she handed in her notice because she's sick. It maybe she's done the OP a favour as she knows she's going to be too unwell to work for the foreseeable future! Therefore she could be in hospital or somewhere she isn't receiving emails?

I think this is one of those times where yes, it's suspicious and yes, it's bloody annoying. But the energy wasted stressing about it could be used proactively to solve it.

OP - is there anything in her contract re photos of children and their usage?

OutragedFromLeeds · 14/08/2015 14:57

'Sending photos by email is hardly onerous.'

Depends what's wrong with her surely? If she's at home with a broken leg then I agree that sending an email is doable.

If she's in agony, in hospital, suffering with terrible migraines, just been diagnosed with a terrible illness, in a post-operative coma etc. then sending an email may well be genuinely beyond her at the moment.

People rarely have complete personality transplants overnight. If she has been ok up to now (which we can assume she has because the OP has continued to employer her), it's unlikely she is now deliberately running the children's homework!

WitchofScots · 14/08/2015 15:00

You've got three weeks left, can't you do your own photos?

HirplesWithHaggis · 14/08/2015 15:04

OP might not have three weeks left if she's in Scotland. Some of our schools have already started back, others are back next week.

giraffesCantBrushTheirTeeth · 14/08/2015 15:11

Scottish schools back yesterday or next week

G1veMeStrength · 14/08/2015 17:34

Re. do your own, depends what the photos are doesn't it though? One year DC had to have a photo of them reading a book in an unusual place, I'd've been gutted to lose the one we took.

WitchofScots · 14/08/2015 17:52

You can always pull something out of the bag though can't you, even if it is a photo of reading in an unusual place - pop down to your local church and have them reading by the organ, or in the garden on the trampoline etc etc.

wizzywig · 14/08/2015 18:21

thanks OP. this is a reminder to me to ensure my contract states that all photos are to be forwarded to me within 5 days and immediately deleted. no photos are to be kept by the nanny when they are no longer employed by myself

beachyhead · 14/08/2015 18:24

Get the dc to 'pretend' to do the homework again and recreate the pictures....

Funinthesun15 · 14/08/2015 18:29

If she is being spiteful I'd be take my time paying her sick pay.

This could very well be in breach of contract if you do this.

YonicScrewdriver · 14/08/2015 18:31

Wizzy, you might be better providing a specific camera on that basis.

Yerazig · 14/08/2015 21:49

Wizzy..wow never heard of that in 10years of childcare. Maybe get your nanny a cheap digital camera.
