Has anyone esle done this or is in the process of doing it?

I started it this september and have had one assessment visit as assessor has been ill so have been off to a slow start - also because I cover parents who work shifts I can't attend the college workshops so am finding it really hard to get started. In fact don't know where to start!

Does anyone have any tips or want to share ideas, with me. Also should have had 3yr old mindee start in sept but mum's start date keeps getting put back which is frustrating as he is my youngest mindee!

Hi
I'm doing it. have had one assessment so far and have one planned tomorrow. If you aren't able to get the assessments done try talking to your assessor to see if you can do a bit of written work, Knowledge Evidence. They set questions, I just did a load for 302 - Develop & Maintain a Healthy, Safe & Secure environment for Children. I covered all H&S including various policies & procedures.
My Assessor also does recorded chats, where she questions me or my practice and I talk into a dictaphone rather than writing it all down. they are trying to get away from so much writing now.
I'd talk to your assessor and see if you can work thru a bit till you get better timings for assessments when you have mindees.....alternatively, borrow some friend kids!
Take care
Frankie

I am doing it as well, and started in April. I should get signed off everything next month on the next visit!

If you look and plan what they need to do, then you can cover loads on each visit. I also started looking at the knowledges, and just started with 301, and just went through all of them. They like you to keep it simple and bullet point everything reather than waffle on. Everything now has to fit into one folder.

If you can work through those on your own, then you should be able to get everything else done easily. Oh, and I don't bother going into college as I find that a bit boring so as we don't have to, I don't bother!

Any questions, give me a shout!

oh good was wondering if i was the only childminder doing this! twoandabump you have soon got through it where do you find time!!

Thanks for both of your suggestions, am definately gonna get motivated over the weekend when my house is relatively childfree - I had thought of borrowing my sister's two little ones so may well do that.

Will keep you posted
thank you

I find that once you get into it, you just get going. Sort of have splurges every few weeks lol.

If you plan what you are going to do, then you canfly through. Not as bad as you think.

They do it in an average of a year here. I could have got through quicker if I hadn't had the morning sickness lol. It is actually quite easy for a childminder as we have to do most of the things anyway.

I tend to have an hour or 2 each week one night.

I'm an nvq assessor , but its for NVQ in care. I have got a few people through the CCYP though, so I might be a help in regards to assessment questions etc. It's worth a try if your stuck!

2sprogsmum do you think my assessor will mind doing some of frankiebs suggestions of questions and answers, etc?

Am off to buy a text book tomorrow morning as the college library don't have one. Started today - just an hour but its a start!

Feel quite positive mow you have all got back to me so thanks!

Your assessor would be well impressed if you carried on and wrote some reflective accounts to cover some of the performance criteria in the units. You could maybe write one per element. And you could get on and cover the knowledge specification yourself. Have you got written questions from her/him to help you to do this. You could also look at the standards and get some witness testimonies of people to cover some of the criteria. Your assessor should be meeting you regularly to ensure youmove forwrd, if he/she isn't I would contact the internal verifier and ask for another assessor who can give you their support.
Your assessor needs to get observations off you for probably 50% of each unit, so you could definately carry on and get the other 50% yourself.
Well, at least that is how it works where I work!
Throw us some questions if you need to and we will help you!
