CM CLUB - CHANGE IN REGISTRATION ADVICE

Hi there, hoping that someone can give me some advice re whether ofsted are likely to change registration details when I haven't actually had any mindee's yet???
Been registered a couple of months and having no luck at all (had to take on a weekend job which i HATE).
Had an enquiry from someone who wants me to mind their 10.5 month old daughter 5 hours a day. Problem is my son is 8.5 months so not registered from under 1's. Have written to Ofsted to request change in registration conditions. Do you think they are likely to agree?? Have explained to them that my son is in a great day time routine and with proposed mindee being almost 1 am confident that I will be able to provide the required care quite easily.
What do you think??

Ofsted wouldn't know that you've not had any mindies ... unless you tell them!

So, I can't see why you could not do a Variation request without having had any mindies.

However, getting permission to care for effectively 2 under 1's isn't going to be easy. There are details about how to apply for a variation to care for an additional under 1 in the Childminding Guidance 2004.

One of the examples it gives is: --- Example 1 This new childminder has considerable experience of looking after babies. She was previously a qualified nursery nurse, who worked in the baby room of a large day nursery. She has produced full but flexible plans for how she will make best use of the childminding day and adapt her model to meet individual children?s needs.

So, if you have written to Ofsted detailing how you plan to care for both the children... then you stand a chance, especially as you are not wanting to care for more than 3 under 5's. Plus, it would only be for a fixed timeperiod, as mindee will be one in less than 2 months.

good luck.

Hi star

I applied to Ofsted when I had been registered for 6 months - I had one mindee then; I started to care for second mindee when she was about 9 weeks old & by the time she was 6 months, had another enquiry for baby of 7 months plus I already had a 16 month old on those days. I firstly telephoned the inspector to ask what the likelyhood would be of being granted permission for 2 under 1's; she basically asked me to explain to her how I would meet all the childrens needs etc; then asked me to write in confirming my telephone conversation. I was granted permission so I think you have done everything you need to do. Good luck!

Thanks!
I am confident that I am more than capable of caring for both babies and providing the care that they need. Just hope Ofsted agree!
Keeping my fingers crossed!!!!

Just had a visit from the prospective childmindee and her parents. She is an adorable little girl and her and my ds got on really well. She was really confident here and not at all shy like her mum thought she would be! They def want to place her with me, really hope that Ofsted agree.
The mum has said that she will speak to Ofsted if need be and explain how confident she is to leave her daughter in my care!!!!!
Fingers crossed for me please X

yes, i agree, if you explain that you already have your own child sorted , routine etc and perfectly capable of managing another young child as you are so 'organised' with you own , i think theyd go for it!

StrawberryMoon · 13/11/2006 19:24

oh and you could emphasise that your own child of similar age helps you understand the needs of another of similar age and that you have all correct safety and equiptment for younger children!..why dont you email them?..i find the email people are fab!

Thank you, did email them a copy of the letter I posted (cause I know what our postal system is like).
Will email them in the morning with all the information I forgot to put in my original letter (which is probably quite a lot).
Thanks X
