My new Au Pair has arrived

First time we've had an Au Pair. And we chose this route because of my hours at work (I do 12 hour shifts x3 times a week and that includes nights and weekends)

So this week she will only actually be working for 5 hours. (On tuesday whilst I sleep)

She's lovely. Better English than she thinks she has, and we're teaching each other, if she doesn't understand a term we explain it, and then she says what it would be in Spanish.

We've set her room up with a television, loads of storage, it's bloody beautiful actually.

We have also turned subtitles on on the television because she reads excellently, so she can listen and read it at the same time.

What else can we do to make her stay happy? We've arranged London visits, and discussed visiting major cities in the UK. Took her out yesterday. Got her things in she likes to eat (like nesquick milk lol)

Any suggestions above this?

Sounds like you are doing all the right things

One thing I would suggest is English classes - if you can find details of these for her locally

Also, try to encourage her to meet other au pairs. They need to establish a circle of friends and a social life. The classes will help with this as well

Au pair facebook groups, also get her to join "Spanish people in the UK" type groups. Get her a few loyalty cards (waitrose for free coffee, boots, tesco clubcard etc). A Merlin card os lovely if you can afford it. We get a card for out town that gives free entry for residents to visit our local castle and sights, a great way to get her out and exploring! Good luck!!
