Advice on leaving a 2 year old in a creche please

I left my 2 yr old dd in the creche at our local sports centre this morning, while I went to be waxed, so was only gone 45 mins. She did go there as a baby, but this is the 1st time recently. She didn't seem too upset when I left her, but when I came back they said she'd only just calmed down! And she started crying again when she saw me. When we mentioned to her about going again, she got really upset. Do you think I should take her more often to get her used to it, or leave it a while? We're going skiiing in February and was hoping to leave her in the resort creche for a couple of hours a day, so I could get to do a bit of skiing, which is why I started using the sports centre creche again, to get her used to being left.

I guess if you are going to need her to go to the creche in Feb, you should probably stick with it to get her used to it. At 2, do you think she can understand if you explain that mummy justs needs to go and do something, and will be back very soon, that there are no toys where you're going, and so it's best if she stays here and plays with the lovely toys (sorry, am out of touch with 2 year olds)? 45 mins sounds like a good amount of time. It's probably not that surprising that she's reacted against being left if it's been a while, but no reason why she shouldn't come round to the idea. Good luck!

Try leaving your purse/keys/watch/ring with her

Because in her mind you might forget to pick her up ....but you can't manage without your purse/keys/watch/ring

Thanks I'll try leaving my keys with her. She likes playing with them, so that may help. Will also try leaving her for a shorter time next time and gradually building it up.

Make out you are going to do something really dull so she doesn't think she's missing out on anything exciting. Is the resort creche you are planning to use locally run or is it a tour operator (ie English speaking)one - could make a huge difference.

Think the resort creche is locally run. If leaving her there causes problems, we'll just have to take it in turns to ski. We're going in a big group, so plenty of babysitters available!
