Our nanny has been with us for 3 lovely months - and we had setup a time today when everyone napping to catch up properly. Nothing formal, more for her to give me feedback as to how I can make her job easier... Is there anything else I should be bringing up?

Items to discuss:
1- Give her a brief desription of how pleased we've been with her, how well the kids have settled in with her, seriously no complaints.
2- Give her the opportunity to give me her feedback - if there anything we could do to make her job easier? Is she happy with the kitty, direction, job responsabilities?
3- Give her the heads up that in October we may offer to go from 4 to 5 days - she is under no obligation to take it, but we'd like her to consider it.
4- Holidays - she has 3 more days unbooked - I know its early in the year, but wanted to know if she had any thougthts as to when she's take.
5- Pay... we can't stretch to give her a pay rise now - we were thinking of an annual rise in Jan when she's been with us for a year - is that standard?

Is this the end point of probation? If so, then formally make a note that probation has been completed successfully and thus now the notice period in the contract applies should either side wish to end the agreement.

If not, then discuss when the new review will be pending a decision at that point to end the probationary period.

Holidays - why 3 more days? Is your holiday year running differently to anniversary of start date?
Certainly a good idea to keep on top of holiday taken and remind how much is left to take, procedure for requesting leave, any constraints on that such as not during termtime. Good idea to remind them of the dates which you have already determined they will not be required to attend work (so are on annual leave).

Not sure pay rises are standard at all these days. If you get a rise yourself it is certainly nice to pass some of that on but will you be getting a rise? Pay review once a year is certainly fine and post Xmas is a good time as more money in Jan pay can be useful.

Thanks ladies -yes - this is the end of probatioanry. Holidays are on start date (mid-Jan 15...) i've already allocated my 2 weeks, she's choosen her 1 1/2 weeks so has 1/2 week left to take and just need to remind her of this.

would like to pass along part of whatever my pay rise is in Jan 16, as she's been a valued employee. Why are pay rises not standard now a days?

Re holidays she may be saving them for odd days here and there. I leave aside a bunch of days for odd days I may need off.

Everything else sounds good, she's lucky to be employed by such a thoughtful employer.

Are pay rises not standard these days?!

I've always got a yearly pay rise, I have pay rise in line with inflation in my contract. Between £5 per week and £50! The £50 is not the norm but it is generally around £15-25 per week.

I also got annual pay rises, I tend to stay in jobs for many years. One family, I was I a share, didn't want to give me as big a rise as the other family so the second family gave me a secret bonus.

You sound like you've got everything covered. Remember to say about the change now you're in the real contract part re notice, etc.
