Live-in Nanny Wage

Hi, I'm looking for some info on rough live-in and live-out wages in London.

I'm thinking about asking my employers if I can become live-out, but want to work out pay beforehand so I don't panic and accept any amount offered during the chat.

I currently earn £7.11 per hour (net) which is almost £390 (gross) per week. I work 45 hours. I'm happy with this amount, I think it is towards the higher end considering the amount of hours I work, but I do also do a lot of housework and cooking for the parents/guests. My official job title is not nanny/housekeeper though.

I'm happy to continue housework when moving to live-out, but I would want to drop the 'free' evening babysits currently in my contract (2 per week).

What sort of hourly rate would I be looking at for this role? I want to work out if I can actually afford to live out in London before asking to move out!!

Depending on experience, I would say £9-£10 net per hour (£7 or £8 per hour for babysitting)

Use this to work out figures.

Bunny, I get £10 p/h for evening babysitting for other families in my area

in London it's £10 per hour net - use the mr anchovy calculator to work out gross

seems very unlikely to me that any family would want such a drastic increase in their nanny costs (using that calculator it will increase their costs by over £9,000 per year for a 45 hour week), given that there is limited financial benefit from you not living in. Have you decided what you're going to do if they say no?

Scrabble, the family were originally looking for live-out but opted for live-in because I lived far away and it seemed the easiest option. It was also discussed at interview that they want me long term and as I'm not getting any younger, they didn't expect me to live with them for the whole post. I definitely wouldn't raise it with them if we hadn't had this discussion because, as you say, live-in would financially suit a family better and it would be unreasonable to expect a family to pay so much more for my lifestyle change.

If they say no, I will just look for a new live-out post.

I think you are bing grossly underpaid! Live in normally starts at the lower end at £350 a week net, not gross!
