Au pair working day

I'm tentatively thinking about looking for an au pair as my husband is working away during the week. I'm a SAHM to a 1 yo and 3 yo so don't need childcare as such, but just a help especially in the mornings and at bedtimes.
I'd be interested to hear what a typical au pair's day looks like if anyone could tell me how their at pair's day is structured.

Also, this might be a bit cheeky, but I'd really like a german au pair so I can practise my german. Is that a big no no? I wouldn't want to hinder their language learning. But I'd love a chance to practise!

Any advice would be appreciated.

Au pairs typically work 25 hours a week. For us that is 5 hours a day over the week, with weekends completely free. It is up to you how you timetable the hours, but it is considerate to allow for your au pair to be able to attend language classes.

Its not cheeky at all to want to practice German. I would sell it as a language exchange if the au pair wants, where you spend 30 minutes say practising German conversation each week, followed by 30 minutes English conversation. This would be something most au pairs would be pleased to do in my experience.

Good luck with your search.

Great, thanks for your reply. Good to hear that practising my german wouldn't be off limits! I guess I need to figure out a bit of.a timetable myself.
We live in a bit of a remote area - 25 miles to a decent sized town. I wonder if that will be a big problem with finding someone.

If you advertise on Au Pair World you can specify that you would like an au pair from Germany and in your profile you can mention that you would also like the opportunity to practise your German. It should be fine as long as they plenty of time to learn English too...
