you would be able to have one 1-5yr old and three 5-8yr olds.

smeeinit · 19/10/2006 22:29

oh and as many over 8s as you can handle!

FeelingOld · 19/10/2006 22:30

Hi 2 babies,
Usually minders are allowed 6 under 8's, 3 of which can be under 5, but only 1 of which can be under 1. You then need to deduct your own children from this so in your case you would be allowed 4 under 8's, but only 1 of them could be under 5 and as you have a baby already they could not be under 1.

So to summerise basically
1 pre schooler
3 after schoolers.

FeelingOld · 19/10/2006 22:32

you pipped me too it smeeinit and explained it much better than me.

smeeinit · 19/10/2006 22:33

any idea what the going rate is in wiltshire?

For the going rate, check on childcarelink website

One thing I will say is that the number of children you are allowed also depends on the size of your house/how much floor space you have. I'm only allowed 4 children in total (instead of 6) so 1 after schooler. Hoping this will change soon as moving to bigger house.

Our local Children's Information Service will send someone round to your house to give you an idea before deciding if you want to do the course etc. Just a thought.

can i just say that maybe its different as im in wales but I have a 3yr old and a 6mths old but am allowed another 1 under 5 (of any age-even under 1) thinking they have changed this recently as my local cm didnt know this, it used to be what you guys are saying - she rang csiw to ask and they confirmed what i have said. Might be worth double checking in ofsted. but I know we work different in wales

looneytune · 20/10/2006 09:22

I built a website for a childminder in Wales last year and I remember she was allowed different numbers to us. Pretty sure it's still the same in England but it's worth checking.

dmo · 20/10/2006 09:34

all depends on the space in your house as to how many children you can have

2Babies0Bumps · 20/10/2006 11:37

am seriously considering becoming a cm. was looking into it before but discovered i was pregnant.
as my children are 15m and 5wks i would prefer to mind slightly older children anyway- possibly 2 that could walk well! obviously my two are both in double buggy.

Just to warn you that when you are starting up alot of calls you tend to get from CIS site is from people looking for care of babies as they return to work. You tend to get older children by word of mouth. I have started recently and do have older kids but that's because my oldest daughter is 6 and I meet mums with similar aged kids at school.
