i have a 'dont eat lunch/dinner(or the majority of it)..dont get desert' rule...although mindee does have treats now and agin(much to my pockets disaproval!)..she never eats any/enough food to enable her to have a desert

i even purposly give her smaller portions as encouragement. but she still eats hardly any, messes around, sticks fingers in mouth and eats those instead???

so the biscuits we made this morn were for after lunch and now she (and my dd also today) havent been able to have one?!
the reason i did this was to encourage her to eat her lunch and say her biscuit was a well done treat..but no?!

if mine dont eat dinner i give them some fruit of a yogurt cause at least they have had something

when they are older say 3 i then have the no dinner no dessert rule

LoveMyGirls · 19/10/2006 13:36

i htink any children under the age of 3 should get something afterwards if they really won't eat it (after trying for a long enough period of time, say 45mins max)

if older than this, if i have given them alot and consider they have eaten enough then i will let them have something else but its only ever fruit, yogurt, custard, rice pudding etc

StrawberryFULLMoonOWOWOWWWWWWW · 19/10/2006 13:45

they both had soup and a roll..not much IMO and left most and theyre both over three so they dont get a sweet

I give foods I know they might not eat, together with something they will eat (like brown bread and marge) and together with the apple or yoghurt. This is to take all pressure off and to make no difference between food and treats. What they don't eat I takeaway with no comment. This eventually works - my mindee (age 3) ate a fishfinger and one pea yesterday (as well as the bread etc) which was a success for her. Even if they don't eat the food then just getting used to it by having it on the plate or playing with it, is useful.

I do the no real try at your food no pudding rule too.
My very fussy mindee actually had some bread dipped in her soup today - a major breakthrough.
I feel like celebrating for her
