Should I let 4 year old mindee watch television??

I have a 4 year old boy in the afternoons.

I always have lots of toys accessible and offer various activities but all he wants to do is curl up and watch cbeebies.

Should I let him, as this is what he wants to do or try and persuade him to do something else?

He is at school in the mornings so I guess he does lots of playing/ activities then but I feel guilty if he's just sat watching tv.

What do you think?

Ask the parents what they would like you to do with him.

i would ask the parents fit ehy mind him watching some tv, if they don't mind then i would let him watch it for a bit when he first arrives and then encourage him to do activities with you, try something fun like jelly play or baking to catch his interest once he gets used to being active after a short rest then he will probably be happy to go and play with the other toys, colouring etc. make a point of reminding him you are going to turn the television off (im going to turn the tv off in 5mins) as if its on in the backgroud he will have no motvation to do other activities.

I think it's good for kids to have some down time after school-- i would be happy with him watching an hour and then doing something else.

i only have after school mindees and to be honest when they get in from school it is rare for them to watch the tv. if they do ask, then it goes on for just a little while, then we find something else to do. i think when kids have been at school they do need time to just sit and relax sometimes though.

I would say some TV ok but not all afternoon.

My ds and mindee 1 are 3½ and attend nursery sessions every morning. When we get back, I let them have some tv whilst I make lunch but if they are happy to just play nicely when we get back, they may have some tv a little later whilst baby is napping. I certainly noticed the difference when they started attending nursery and they do need to have some chill time to recharge their batteries. Mindee 1's mum is more than happy for her to chill and watch tv for a bit, she actually prefers that to me doing anything too active with them.

I would certainly speak to their mum about it.
