Unconventional nanny arrangement - help please!

After a desperate struggle to find childcare after a nursery let us down at the last minute & no luck finding a CM, I think I've found a nanny to look after my 9mth old son but it's a slightly unconventional arrangement & would be grateful for some advice. Basically she'll be looking after him in my own home as per usual nanny arrangement but on the Monday she will also have her 3 year old daugher & on Wednesday her daughter is at pre-school from 9-12pm (she'll drop off & collect with my son in tow). She'd be doing all the usual activities both at home & out-&-about that I'm looking for in a childcarer & her DD seemed very at ease with my DS so I have no problem with this & actually quite like the idea of my DS mixing with other children. But, does her also caring for her daughter in my home changes the nature of her employment for the purposes of H&S, tax, insurance etc. Also, she has quoted £50per day - does this sound about right bearing in mind it won't be 'sole care' for my son?
Thanks in advance.

£50 a days sounds cheap for a full day but as her DD is coming along it is a nanny share so you would pay her a little less than the going rate anyway so thats about right. All sounds ok tbh! Hope it all works out for you!

lots of nannys work from parents houses with their own children in tow
its up to you if you like the arrangment i think

not sure on price £50 seems high but it depends where you live i suppose

what hours will nanny be doing?

suejoneziscalmernow · 10/10/2006 14:28

if she were in london I'd snatch her arm off dragging her in the door at £50 a day!

Thanks guys. I'm in (commuter) Kent & it will be 8-6pm & TBH I thought it was quite reasonable as it doesn't work out much more than nursery. Oh damn, just realised I haven't asked whether that's net or gross. How much more are we talking for tax & NI?

My nanny does 8am - 6pm and looks after my ds (22months) my dd (4.5years) taking her to school and picking up, and brings along her own dd (2 and a bit). I pay £70 per day, (It should be reduced abit now actually as when she started she was looking after dd all day (minus 2.5 hours for nursery). So I would say it is a good deal, and I have found an extra child who is clearly comfortable around the nanny made mine settle into the routine much more easily.
