Not getting Sick pay when charges make me ill

Hi.

Im a nanny and I don't get sick pay, fair enough

A couple of weeks ago the little boy had a vomiting bug, gave it to me, I was off and I didn't get paid.

Now the little girl has a sickness bug and I will more than likely get it. And I won't get paid..

Completely understand if I am ill that I won't get paid but think it is unfair if the children give me something, and I have to take time off which I don't get paid for.

Understand it's hard for the parents, especially if they have to get someone else to look after the kids, but I can't keep losing money, but very aware that a nanny is employed to look after sick children...Sad

I know it is a bit of a funny one - my DP had his own business couldn't take time off, no family around - I had to look after DCs no matter what - only once or twice in thirteen years (bar being hospitalised when my mum came to stay) have I been sick enough to have to go to bed and I took them, a dvd and some books with us...
On the other hand should you be getting paid anyway for working if you are so sick you are only just functioning? - guess it would save the parent taking time off though...or having to pay someone else ...
I think it is one of those -depends how often etc...probably better just to have SSP in the contract and use your judgement...
(Where I work now the staff have a certain allowance of paid sick and special leave. Current staff rarely off sick and never use all their allowances - so when one staff member's parent died she got paid in full for the whole time she had off -as she should -and kept all her allowance. However looking back in the past one member of staff seemed to always use all or nearly all her allowances... even tried to take a day (paid) special leave because her dog was ill...
