Change of payment date

DP and I are no longer entitled to tax credits so we are using Childcare vouchers which are saving each of us 77 quid a month.

The only problem is that previously I would pay the whole months Childcare fee on my payday and DP would give me his half when he got paid 4 days later.

Now, I pay the what remains on my payday (with DP reimbursing me once paid) but the Childcare vouchers are causing a problem.

Last month was fine but this month due to where the working days fell after and before payday my vouchers will have cleared yesterday according to the company and DPs will not clear until 31st. This will result in late payment fees for me and probably now DP as we agreed it would take 3 days longer but not as long as it did.

So to cut a long story short, we need to move the payment day from the 21st to the 1st but how do you work out the correct amount as their aren't always the same amount of working days between 21st and the 1st and I don't want to pay her short or leave myself short.

The only way I can think is that it's basically a third of a month so divide the full amount by 3?

Any advice greatly received Smile

Speak to person you are paying and explain situation. Shouldn't be problem. You might be able to pay in parts. My main job people do this.

We've spoken about it at great depths. I think we have a good relationship and I've said not to worry about bringing up dodgy subjects such as money but we just aren't sure how to work out what the extra amount should be to bring the payments up to date...

Sometimes vouchers can take ages to get to the providers bank account.

If affordable, the best thing to do is to use the vouchers to pay towards the following months childcare bill. So vouchers you get in October would go towards Decembers bill, assuming you pay fees in advance.

Talk to childcare provider. See if they would be happy with x amount by 1st of month, rest by y date. Talk to voucher company, can they issue vouchers any sooner, so meaning payment is with the provider by month end?

My experience: majority of pay by 28th rest by middle of first week of month - childcare vouchers. Works for me because I have other income coming in, so all my bills get paid on time. I did change a couplr to 7th of month to make sure. Bit of an inconvenience but done now, so no problems.
One income is late every few months. I am seriously unhappy about that though.
Sounds like you will sort it though

I don't think she is happy with x by 21st and y by 1st hence the late payment fees. I did sign a little contract on an a4 (so i guess an addition to the normal contract I signed) that said mine would all be paid by the 24th, which I thught it would be)

I think I am over complicating this though... next month (NOV) to take from 21st - 1st is 5 working days. Obviously I only the extra days used that month. I'm not sure why I thought we had to work out an average. durrrr

Ask your childcare provider to help find a solution. Explain that you are really trying to resolve it for her requirements. Look at contract again, check it thoroughly. I have faith in people's understanding and flexibility, guess I'm the naive one. Thinking of you.

TallulahTwinkletoes · 28/10/2014 14:36

She is very understanding. We owe her money due to the monthly amount being worked out wrongly. She's worked out how much and I'm sure knows she will get it but she hasn't demanded it all in one go. She's been really nice about that Grin

Aha! If you owe her money because she worked it out wrongly this will help you. It is her mistake about wrong calculations therefore she should be able to accept your change of payment arrangements. Perhaps suggest you redo the contract with the new dates in. And late payment fees could be instead of money she calculates you owe. Sometimes you really have to be firm and stick to your guns. It's lesson learned on both sides.
I must say sticking to my guns when negotiating salary is really hard but I do it and I get paid what I feel I am worth as a nanny.

It's a hard one tapestry. Six of one/half a dozen of the other. My last CM left me in the shit and I had two weeks to find someone new. This CM took me in and said she'd match the weekly charge. I then said I pay x a week and y a month. So we carried that on however the previous CM had four weeks holiday calculated in that weekly amount. This CM doesn't have anything like as many days off so it wasn't right. I now have til feb to pay 550 and have no idea how I'll do it. Confused
