Quick and urgent please - nanny first aid

Should I be paying for my nanny's first aid course (her cert is now out of date)? And should I be paying her for the time she is on the course (outside working hours)?

Thanks

IMO, nannies should have first aid regardless...I've always paid for mine and would never dream of asking to be paid for the time if outside working hours.

Nannies responsibility to pay and arrange course in my view.

Up to employer though, you can pay for training/CPD if you so wish.

I'm going the other way as always.

Yes, as her employer you should pay for CPD and essential training as your employer would pay for you (if you're employed).

My employers have always paid for my first aid course. I've never been paid for my time where I've attended the course on a non-working day, but mostly I've been on the course during working hours, so have in effect been paid for my time.

I've been blessed with wonderful employers so far!

nannies should have first aid regardless if ofsted ie must have it

i feel nannies should pay for their own

Karoleann · 13/10/2014 21:04

I've generally paid for it (but put a proviso in the contract that they must pay it back if they leave within 6 months), but they must do it in their own time.

It does depend on the nanny though, if you're employing someone who you're paying above the going rate because they are extra qualified then they should keep up their qualifications that they had when you first employed them

Greenfizzywater · 13/10/2014 21:10

I'm a GP, I've worked in the NHS for 14 years and in that time I think I've had three courses paid for. It's up to you whether you offer but it is not always standard for professionals to have CPD paid for.

Asleeponasunbeam · 13/10/2014 21:16

I was planning on paying for the course fees but not paying for her time (weekend).

I don't think first aid even counts as CPD tbh, it's more fundamental than that. It's the equivalent of fire safety training or something along those lines.

I think paying for the course, but not the time is a good compromise.

Asleeponasunbeam · 16/10/2014 17:03

We've decided to pay for the course and her time. Neither of us appreciate having to pay for our own training (although we do pay for DH's). I certainly wouldn't want to do a course at the weekend.

She's quite pleased with the idea!

I only ask employers to paye if they want me to be ofsted registered.

If not then I paye for it myself as its something she needs.
