Starting up as a childminder in Scotland, any tips/hints/help?

I'm considering starting up as a childminder when I move house (next week) - primarily because it would allow both me and dh to work at the same time, and because there are no childminders in the area! I've discovered the Scottish Childminding Association website and am wading through the National Care Commission document - anything else out there I could read that would help?

Also, can you not set up as a childminder until you have been properly registered/inspected etc or can you start up on "probation" as it were? I know I will have huge demand and a waiting list from the word go, seems a shame if I can't do anything about it for so long.

Any advice/thoughts welcome

If you go to this website {/link{http://www.scotland.childminders.biz/}
You will find lots of helpful info.
It is not advisable to start caring for children without any insurance and to obtain insurance you must be registered first.
All the best

Thanks kira

That's a bummer, means I can't work for six months plus then? By which time I hope to be up the duff anyway

Any more advice etc very welcome

You must be registered to take money - it's illegal otherwise

You are only registered once you have your certificate

You might get registered in less than 6 months

Good luck
