Early child minders

Hi, am I being unrealistic here? I need childcare from 6 am to school drop off at 0830. This is because my partner (who was doing the morning child care walked out a week ago) and I have no family near by. I'm getting no interest from childminders. Is it totally out of the question for a childminder to do an early start? If so what options do j have? We are London.

Can you change your working hours?

Nanny share?

HSMMaCM · 02/09/2014 07:38

Even if they don't advertise those hours, ask.

You might get charged extra.

I wouldn't do it regularly, but I know a CM who might.

You'll probably find one who will do it but it will cost a premium

I know one who would (and has) started that early so they are out there - just few and far between. Call them all and ask the question.

I have had a 6am start in the past - it doesn't bother me.

Whereabouts in London are you op?

downandoutindulwich · 02/09/2014 19:03

Thanks - I can't change my working hours at the moment. We are in dulwich - many thanks

I advertise my hours as 8am - 5.30pm but that I am prepared to discuss hours outside of this. I did do an early start of 6.15am for one child for quite a while. I charged extra for the time until my standard start time of 8am. It all depends on the childminder. There's no harm in asking them.

Maybe look at local sixth form student to offer the childcare especially as school age they could drop off on way to college assuming school is walking distance and you don't need ofsted registered care. At 16/17/18 I would willingly have done this and did loads eve n after school babysitting.

I also think maybe getting a student or someone who can provide in home care. I am not sure what time your child gets up but 6am is quite early to be out and about of the home and may become really tired by the end of school. I may be wrong though and it is just a suggestion :)

My lovely lovely childminder starts at 6.15am. Se didn't advertise the fact, I just pinged off emails to all the cms in my area stating what I needed and they replied yes or no Smile
