Looking for a p/t temp nanny - any ideas as Im getting desperate!

I'm looking for a p/t temp nanny to work 4 mornings a week for 10-12 weeks. I have offered to pay over the standard rates to compensate for it being a temp role and Im based in London, so I thought it would be easy to attract candidates.

Im having real difficulty in finding anyone. I've been to 3 nanny agencies - and not one of them has been able to provide me with a candidate.

I've registered on childcare.co.uk and contacted a lot of nannies on there. Many are already in roles now or need different hours to what Im offering. I had 6 candidates lined up to interview today, but 4 dropped out yesterday (stating they had another offer come through).

Im really worried I won't be able to find someone. I work for myself and today is meant to be my first day back (client needed to bring date forward). I've got my mum coming down to stay and help me for this week but beyond that she can't help out.

Can anyone suggest solutions I may not have thought of please??

prob is, (im a temp nanny) and as you are only offering mornings means they could be turning down all day work 10/11/12rs and thus a lot of money to lose

12 weeks temp is fine if all day but not just mornings as be very hard to find something else for 3mths to fit in with it

could you increase hours or make 2 whole days? and use mum for the other 2?

If you don't mind me asking, what hours and pay are you offering.

As blondes said, it probably comes down to pay. A full time position could earn them £100 a day. Say if you're offering 3 hours even at £50 it still doesn't compare really.

It is for 5 hours a day. I was hoping I could find someone who does after school care and so could fit this in.

I am really reluctant to go to two full days as my daughter is only 18 weeks old, and I am struggling with the whole idea of working when she is so young (but have to take work when work is there). I am also breastfeeding and she won't take a bottle so going to full days would mean spending a lot of time feeding her instead of working (I work from home apart from client meetings), whereas mornings I can get away with just two feeds.

Mum can't stay more than 4 days this week as she has hospital appointments (she has just had a major operation!) and lives 200 miles away.

i'd suggest putting private adverts on nannyjob.co.uk private ad section, and greatcare.co.uk

also nappyvalley.net - has a childcare section on the forum with adverts and nannies who will often accept part time roles - this site is london based

as your in London, you should get some good applicants from nannyjob.co.uk

in my opinion, nannies looking for/accepting temp / part time work, often go through those sites sometimes, rather than some of the big agencies - as their requirements/needs are a bit more adhoc - ie temp and part time

lots of the nannies with the big london agencies will probably wanting more hours / perm roles, i think, just my opinion

Having said the above, likeminders agency will probably be able to find you someone or maybe try rockmybaby nanny agency - they sometimes seem to list part time roles and have temp positions come in and get filled fast.

Hi there, where do you live? I'm a nanny with over 20 years experience and I live in Stoke Newington. I'm free at the moment.

Forresitters1 · 02/09/2014 23:11

Where abouts in London are you? I can recommend some agencies who will definitely place a temp nanny with you! I also do temp work myself and have other nanny friends that might be able to help.
What about a childminder?
Feel free to PM me and I'll get all the information to you.

Thanks for the advice and pointers. It looks like I have found a good candidate via the websites mentioned above. Never thought finding someone would be so difficult Confused
