Nanny Interview etiquette

I'm interviewing a nanny tomorrow. First time! What's the polite way to end it- whenever I've had interviews they say 'thanks for coming, we'll ring by x to let you know' Is it the same? I've only found one with the flexibility I need so I'm not waiting to interview anyone else.

Then if I do want to offer her the job do is it polite to offer 'subject to references, CRB etc' or do I wait to check that all before offering? It'll take a while from a verbal agreement to getting the contract sorted anyway.

Also, can I ask how often they've had sick days in the last couple of years? Or so I give her a medical checklist questionnaire which would cover everything? I work in a very regulated industry where interviews are very structured so it will be strange with the kids playing around and it being at home (sadly couldn't organise it without kids.)

I agree, let them know you are interested and you could confirm with them the correct contact details for references.

CRB/DBs you would see when you do the interview. If you need a more recent one, then you would need to discuss how you would go about getting that as neither parents nor nannies can apply direct.

Kids around is fine in my view, lets you see how nanny interacts with them.

Fab, thanks for your help. It's very strange this process- far more important to me than hiring someone at work & I want to make sure I do things right!

Be careful re timing of asking about health, this brochure may help:

www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/85013/employment-health-questions.pdf

"The general position is that it is unlawful for an
employer to ask any job applicant about their
health or disability unless and until the applicant has
been offered a job."

Thanks! I completely forgot to ask about her health anyway. I do have to speak to her referee though so will ask then.

She was lovely! Ooh it might actually work out going back to work! Even if it does cost more than half my salary...
