Hi all

I've not been on here for a LONG time so no idea if any of my old MN buddies are on here?

Anyway, I have a question.........is it possible to be an employed Nanny AND a self employed Childminder (say 2 days doing one and 3 days doing the other). I presume the answer is yes as I'm sure there are childminders who work in another job part time.

So my next question (if I'm right) is can you be registered with Ofsted as both?

TIA :)

'Waves'

Yes you can. Same as I'm a se nanny for temp emergency maternity night work but also employed as a nanny on other days

Sure you need diff insurance and ofsted tho for cm and nanny

I'm sure you can, but it will be a pain if you have to pay Ofsted twice. Would the new DBR check thingy sort out not having millions of CRB checks?

You can do it legit through HMRC wise (Like Blondes I so SE nannying and am employed) but HSM raises a good point about Ofsted, you'll need to find out how they'd work that one!! Surely being on the register once on the full one would be fine if there was a note on file about being a registered nanny too? Confused

I think that Ofsted now require you to have the rolling DBS, so once that's paid it shouldn't be an issue (that's the impression I got my my inspector the other day!)

Depends if the family who want you to be their nanny want an ofsted nanny? Have they said this?

From 1st September, Ofsted require new applicants (so presumably also those who were registered but resigned) to have DBS Update Service.
"For applications submitted on or after 1 September 2014 everybody associated with the application must join the DBS update service and give their consent to Ofsted re-checking the status of their DBS certificate at least every six months." Source

You would need to register on both parts of the Childcare Register

  • the compulsory part
Providers must register on this part if they care for one or more children following their fifth birthday until they reach their eighth birthday.
  • the voluntary part
Providers who are not eligible for compulsory registration may choose to register on this part. These are mainly people looking after children aged eight and over, or providing care in the child’s home (usually nannies).

And also the Early Years Register (as caring for those in early years age group).

Would you be childminding under 6's? Later Years is defined as "1 September following their fifth birthday to the day they reach the age of 18" so if doing childminding Before/After school then you may be able to register as a later years childminder, as long as you don't collect children from Reception class.
