Night nanny - best way to find one??

For this baby, I am considering getting a night nanny to help at some point. With sarge sleep issues nearly killed me. I have googled night nanny surrey and lots of websites come up but I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the best way, eg should I rather find someone myself via gumtree or similar? Or is an agency the best solution?

I have time so there's no rush.

Whereabouts are you?
Someone might have a personal recommendation which is, imo, often better than going through an agency.

As you are Surrey based (aka near London) , I'm sure you'd have lots of experienced applicants through posting an advert with greatcare.co.uk , nanny job.co.uk or childcare.co.uk

Hi I work as a Night Nanny in Hertfordshire and would recommend you google night nanny and your location/county and see what comes up.
I have my own website and have direct enquiries through it.
I always show new clients photo ID ie passport or driving licence. They are then shown my DBS and certificates, including maternity qualifications and First Aid. They are then given contacts for my references - last two clients.
I have worked through agencies in the past. They only do the above checks. Ie check ID and view certificates. They may or may not have followed up references (I know some agencies didn't). They don't repeat DBS if Nanny's one is recent.
If you use an agency it will be more expensive as you will pay the nanny and the agency.
Advantage of an agency is they will hopefully send you more than one candidate.
See a couple of candidates including those nannies who have own websites and see who you like and would feel comfortable with.
Please PM me if you want any advice on questions to ask.

I live very near you and work as a nanny. I would recommend premier night nannies or try just premier nannies. I haven't work through them as a night nanny just a day time one but I know she does night time ones too. If you ever need someone for a few hours in the day time to let you catch up on sleep or to give some advice/ guidance please feel free to pm me. I have my own 22 month old so know all about disturbed nights!

You could try an agency called silent-night nannies, go on childcare.co.uk or nanny job

Thanks all. This has given me a start to think about in terms of research. Do you think a night nanny would be willing to come once a week for 12 weeks rather than every night for 2? I just feel that if it's like last time, a break of one night now and again would make all the difference. Dh is great but he was as exhausted as me and tbh I didn't find it that restful when he did middle if the night (he was brilliant at 5 am though when I was on verge of suicide!Grin)

Yes a night nanny will do one night a week for twelve weeks. They often have several clients overlapping.

Hi as a night nanny I only do 1-3 nights a week and have often started on 3 for a few weeks dropped to 2 for another few weeks and then 1 for a bit longer most families I have worked for couldn't afford every night or even every other night and would rather work out a budget and go from there.

You may find someone on here. Blondes is in Kent my geography is a little rubbish but Surrey is in that direction isn't it :)

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/08/2014 19:43

surrey is semi near me, asim on kent border but you are a tad too far for me (sorry)

as you have time you can try putting an ad on childcare.co.uk (rem to pay and be a gold member so you can send messages) or nannyjob or gumtree

you could ring local agencies and enquire if they have night nannies, cost varies but generally £25/30 a night on top of what you pay the night nanny (which can vary depending on their exp but around £12/15 gross an hour) or as your 2nd child you could have a nn with less exp and pay less

generally one night a week isnt enough if you want the nn to implement a routine and give you a break - i recommend 2/3nights a week to begin with and then drop to 1/2 a week

work out your budget and then a nn will help you get the most from it

will you be bf/bottle, or ebm

if bf do you want nn to come to you with baby, leave/talk to you, then after settle bubs and you go back to sleep

if you are happy with a bottle, i would try to do the night feed as one, either formula or ebm, so that you get a proper nights sleep and dad/gp/nn can feed and help you out
