Huge congratulations - if I lived closer I'd be there like a shot!

Katymac · 18/09/2006 17:54

Gosh that wws quick

I know this is silly - but isn't it different to mine

It is very impressive - I'm not sure mine could pour out drinks.....

anniediv · 18/09/2006 17:57

Wow, congratulations, that is really something to be proud of!!

Thank you.

I think it is bizarre how different reports are. Some focus on completely different things, different style of reporting etc!

I read a few before I had mone and thought WoW, I'm not as good as these, or couldn't see myself gettting some of the amazing statements on mine!

A big congratulations on your report although I have to agree about the inspectors picking up on different things. My mum was recently inspected by the same lady and I was there with her when it took place and I have to say that I walked out mid inspection as I have never met anyone so condesending in my life!!

My mum has been a childminder for 15+ yrs - a job she chose so she could stay home with us. I realise experience is not good enough for OFSTED but all Hilary(grin)wanted to do was tick the boxes in front of her!

My mum held up space suits she had made for the kids and showed various toys/hand made pictures so on and so forth and all Hillary (grin)wanted to know is whether or not mum used rubber gloves for changing nappies!!!! (of course, she changes so many she rivals the NHS on orders!)

I admire you for such a great report because I think that it is almost impossible to achieve - no thats wrong we DO achieve-it's impossible to verbalise and show everything we do!!

Ever so sorry about the rant (blush)

PCKizzy · 18/09/2006 21:37

Oh My!

I just spoke to mum and it wasn't Hilary-so BIG appolgies if you read this Hilary!

The new inspection was by someone else ( I won't be mentioning names again)

Hilary is in fact very nice and supportive-think I will carry on just reading these messages and not commenting

xxxxxx

hulababy · 18/09/2006 21:42

Wow! What a fantastic report. Well done.

alibubbles · 19/09/2006 06:18

pckizzy, are you in my area then?

H who did my inspection is a lovely lady. She was very pleasant to have around and the children chatted to her confidently. I enjoyed her company and she was very skilful and efficient, getting the information she needed without it being a 'trial', especially as she was here under three hours, unlike some colleague inspections of 5 hours+

i've just read your report and it is brilliant - well done!!!!
i've never read an ofsted report before so it was good for me to see the kind of things they look at (i am due my inspection within a few weeks)

if i get a good that will be enough to put a smile on my face, to get outstanding at this stage (ive only been doing it 5months) would be amazing, i dont think they give outstanding to cm's as inexperienced as i am.

StrawberryMoon · 19/09/2006 10:07

well done you!!!!!
so although you were reg since 92, when you get newly reg, do they have to wait for crb to come back before they can issue one of these???

UrsulatheSeaWitch · 19/09/2006 10:12

Blimey, alibubbles, what an outstanding report - well done you. I remember looking at your website once and wishing I could come for lunch every day!

I was tickled by "They engage in animated conversations with the neighbour over the garden fence that helps develop their awareness of others" - I assume your neighbour is a lover of children!

UrsulatheSeaWitch · 19/09/2006 10:13

Katymac, you know your place is fab too

alibubbles · 19/09/2006 10:15

I've actually been registered since 1986 but the computer won't accept it - daft!

Lovemygirls. it is possible for new childminders to get outstanding, I know of a couple who have been registered only 6 months - my freind is a support minder to her, we wonder whom should be supporting whom!

alibubbles · 19/09/2006 10:18

Ursulathewitch, more like my little ones being nosey - "What you doing lady?"

This 100 foot down the garden too!

I love these reports a little like statistics.

Our nursery got a cracking report, yet not once in the two years did I have consultation appointment or nursery report from them.

Neither did my ds have regular reading of his book. (was there 4 days) read once a week if lucky. One month he only read once!

I asked at the end of the first year for his report that they are supposed to keep updated. I nearly fell over, hardly any of it was filled in and what was filled in was incorrect.

Bah, humbug, trust your instincts and use these reports cautiously.

Sorry to be a downer on this but I do think we all get rather sucked in by what we read rather than what we feel. I truly do hope the school is a corker.

I

UrsulatheSeaWitch · 19/09/2006 10:19

That was rather what I was imagining

alibubbles · 19/09/2006 10:20

Lovemygirls.I am sure you will be fine.

Make sure you have a complaints policy, child protection contact numbers and a fire escape policy with evidence that you have practised it and then evaluated it.

alibubbles · 19/09/2006 10:25

Tenalady, I am sure that happens, but my records and observations were looked at. I also have individual child profiles that the parents see and have a page for comments on the discussions we have had.

I have seen first hand what some nurseries produce as so called 'records' on children, virtually non existent. My records go with the child to their next setting and are shared with any other provison they attend at the same time. Some settings have been amazed at the extent of what accredited childminders do, and ask to use our ideas.

I am also monitored by a network co ordinator every 6-8 weeks to ensure that I do all these, as I claim nursery education funding for 3 and 4 year olds.

oops, anyone can access my report on the internet. The address stated in very, very generalised. My name isn't in the report.

I can also be found by typing childminding St Albans, and `i have a website, so quite a high profile on the web!

Thanks anyway!

Hey alib, big congrats. A great report on the work you do. I am sure you are chuffed.

It's funny, as I read it I started wondering about good ways of incorporating some of the ideas into my home care of dd IYSWIM... of course we do a range of activities and trips, but it's great to be able to gain inspiration for additional ways to structure / present info, educate on safety, use mealtimes as education about other cultures etc. etc. Yes, of course this is done to a certain extent in conversation and play, but it's got me thinking ! Thanks.
