Nanny and Xmas time...

I know it's 5 months away but we're trying to figure out our own annual leave and family visiting schedule.

This is the first year we'll have had our nanny. She is fantastic and we want to do what is 'the done thing' and be very fair but obviously don't have unlimited time off or money!

Are most nannies expecting to be given time off for Xmas without having to use up their own annual leave days? We normally take the bank holidays only and so work between Xmas and new year. Would that be frowned upon if we expect her to work (or of course use her own holidays)?

If you are meant to give time off, how much? And is this on top of a financial bonus?

Yes I agree with that, why on earth would I want the nanny around if we are all there! Only thing I could think is if I've planned a nice day out with older child that younger child can't come along for and my husband wasn't around.

Long time ago we had a lovely nan - for about 30 months.

She finished on 23rd Dec. and re-started 3rd Jan. We paid her as normal and gave 1 week "bonus".

She did come in on 28th Dec. one year - me and DP went out alone for long lunch. It was nice to have time away from work AND DC. We have no family to help out - no nights off/out etc.

Sorry - should have said. The xmas/NY was not her annual leave.

its the 7-7 that irked me, and my friend, just no need for it - if the nanny must go in then 9-5, have brekaie together as a family then have nanny in

can you tell it annoys me Grin Wink

but

totally diff if parents have to work

Thanks for all the views.

Just to clarify, if we are off we wouldn't expect her to come in. Out preference would be to work other than on the bank holidays and save the leave for another time of year. I'll just ask her.

We hired her in March and she's our first ever nanny. It honestly didn't occur to me to discuss it in advance!
