Returning to work after childminding. What to put on c?

Just that really. I plan on returning to work full time when DD starts school full time in September.

I am going to start looking for work soon and need to update my cv. I want employers to know I've done more than just plonked them in front of the TV and fed them a fish finger butty every now and then Wink

Any ideas on how best to record the actual skills and responsibilities child minders have? Thanks

You've run your own business, done accounts, dealt with clients, planned activities and all sorts of other work related things.

I think CMs are ideal team leaders, because you know how to motivate people

I have just gone back to work after CM 1995-2004 then a nine year gap!
The CV was a bit of a struggle.

Everything that HSMMaCM says, but emphasise the Early Years frameowrk (is it still called that?)
Depending on the work you are going for, emphasise how CMs are reliable, professional etc.

Thank you. Those are all great. I could emphasise my organisational skills and keeping my training up to date. Anything transferable!

I'd avoid using language like 'going back to work'. Childminding is work, hard work. Don't diminish what you've been doing. Don't make it sound like you've had x number of years out of the workforce because you haven't. You're looking for a new job/a different job/change of career/a new challenge not 'going back to work'.

Mention that you have a First Aid Qualification- for lots of employers that would be a plus

Karoleann · 01/08/2014 23:22

I really agree with outraged - you've been at work!

I would just put down childminding as any other employment (even it's not technically employment) so:
2007-2014: Running successful childminding business.
Completion of essential EYFS paperwork for all children attending my setting.
Supervising the overall care of up to XXX young children and ensuring they receive age-appropriate educational and play opportunities.
etc...etc.. also mention invoicing, first aid, having to deal with difficult clients.

being someone who has read over 100s of CV over the years, I would never consider childminding to be a break from the job market.

Excellent point outraged

I never meant to sound like I considered it to be anything less than hard work!

Thanks Karoleann I have included those points plus a few more suggested.

Thank you everyone, now I just need to find a job Confused
