I have my first inspection within the next few months and was just wondering if they have a general time of day that they visit.

Also how long do they stay?

they can visit at any time but more normally after 9am but this is not gosple
they also visit for different lenghts of time it must depend on the inspector
mine came at 9.30am and broke for lunch then returned till 3 (only left cause i was going to school)
others have said they came and went in 2 hrs
just must depend on the day

The best thing about having an Ofsted inspector move in for the day is that you usually get to put your Behaviour Management Policy to good use - the children's behaviour will usually deteriorate as the hours tick by ...

well done alibubbles! good for you!

NannyStar · 16/09/2006 11:45

well done alibubbles, that's great news!

dmo · 16/09/2006 12:47

i got a outstanding too
its not too bad having ofsted in all day you just get on with the job
the best bit is when they ask you questions and a child needs seeing to as you have time to think of a really good answer

Someone from early years told me that there were only 5 outstanding reports in Leeds from OFSTED across all services and they were all childminders. can those who have outstandings tell me what they think made the difference.

alibubbles · 16/09/2006 18:08

I'm not sure really! I am just passionate about what I do, and see it as my profession. ( My own two are 19 & 20)

One of the things constanly remarked on in my report was the independance and self esteem and self confidence of the children in my care. I have had them since tiny, so they have grown up with my way of doing things.

I let the children play, without me managing or directing it, only stepping in when they ask for help etc. There is a lovely atmosphere in the house of contentment.

She liked the fact the children were self sufficient, laying the table themselves, using tissues and disposing of them them selves, independent toileting, co operative play and negotiating between themselves, deciding what they wanted to do, asking me, if they could ,etc.

The fact that resources are readily available and easily accessible even for the baby.

I have a 1 year old ( on monday! ) a 3yr next month and a 3.5 old.

I was surprised at how little she asked, but my network co ordinator said that is because it is evident.

BTW, we have four outstandings in our network of 12 now.
