After school childminding

What do you think is a fair rate to pay a private childminder who works from her home looking after up to 5 children aged 8-11 years? School collections, a cooked meal & homework assistance is offered, term-time only but no holiday childcare available? 3pm-6.30pm.

Location?

Could be anything from £4-8 an hour, though probably charged per session.

PhoebeMcPeePee · 30/07/2014 11:22

I would charge £21 / child / day for those hours.

My Cm Charges £4.50 ph. She doesnt charge for part thereof so would be 3-7pm at 4.50ph so £18 per child.

Includes all meals and drinks. She can only pick up from one school at a time though unless they have staggered end times. All pick ups are done on foot and from local primaries.

She has one secondary aged school child who makes their own way to hers in the bus.

Oh and this is North East.

busyDays · 30/07/2014 13:54

I charge £6/hour and work it out per half hour, so it would be £21/day. I'm in the south east.

HSMMaCM · 30/07/2014 16:06

South east - I'd charge £20 per child and wouldn't provide a meal or homework assistance. However ... I wouldn't do it as I don't do after school or term time only, unless I'm helping out someone I know.

PhoebeMcPeePee · 30/07/2014 19:34

Eta I'm in SE & wouldn't do homework assistance (but then I have 2 little ones as well as younger school children so bit trickier to coordinate).

So are you a cm looking to set-up or parent who is pleased/horrified at prices being quoted?

TattyCatty · 30/07/2014 19:52

I'm in Herts and I pay £15 per day which covers 3.00 - 5.30pm (CM has to leave to do school pick up at 3.00pm, so charges from that point) and includes a hot meal. She will listen to DD read (which is her daily homework) whenever possible, and if DD has some written homework to complete, she will make sure that she is given some quiet space to do so and offer assistance if required. Having looked at the other prices on this thread, I realise that I'm getting a fabulous service at a very reasonable price!

BlinkingHeck · 31/07/2014 14:00

I would've charged £10 flat rate for childcare until 5, £12.50 until 6pm.
Wouldn't do until 6.30.
And would charge £2 per evening meal.

Is she Ofsted registered?

HSMMaCM · 31/07/2014 15:45

And ... You won't decide what to pay her ... She will tell you her fees.

Do you gave 5 children?

Or are you a childminder trying to do a business plan based on 5?

If the former it's a tricky spot to fill to be honest and you might find it easier to gave a mixture of ages including preschoolers.

ABlandAndDeadlyCourtesy · 01/08/2014 08:05

We pay £16 for after school CM, 3-6, no homework help or cooked meal but includes school pick up and sandwich.

Is there an after school club? The cost of that is a point of comparison if you are business planning.
