Where would i look to find registered childcare in child's own home for evenings in northern ireland?

I am going back to college and evenings are looking like my only option. I would need childcare for a 9 and 5 year old 3 evenings a week and the carer would need to drive in order to take dcs to evening activities. It would have to be registered childcare in order to qualify for childcare grant from the college.

Where do i look for this type of childcare? Does it exist?

EmployersForChildcare may be worth contacting but they look like agency, you pay a fee and they advertise the job. www.childcaresolutionsni.org/about-us.aspx

So I would guess you could advertise yourself for a Home Childcarer, though do look into the registration process for that as maybe it needs to be via an agency.

A Home Childcarer would work at your home, so like a nanny, thus more likely to do hours that other providers (like nursery) would not do.

Thanks nannynick. Is it likely that only a nanny found through an agency will be registered?

In England many nannies are registered as home childcarers, some may look for jobs via agencies, others do not. Would imagine that NI is the same.

Why not place an ad somewhere stating that you need someone who is already an approved childcarer. Is there any website in NI like Gumtree, or some other site which does local ads?

Yes we have gumtree here in NI. I never thought of trying there as assumed it would just be casual babysitters but will post and ad. Thank you.

This www.nidirect.gov.uk/home-childcarers looks useful, has links to some PDFs about employing a home childcarer, becoming a home childcarer. Could be useful to read all the documents so you know what steps someone who wants to become a home childcarer has to do, as well as what your responsibilities would be as the employer.

Wish the app would do clickable links!

www.nidirect.gov.uk/home-childcarers will it work this time.

If you have a local shop that does adverts, put something there. You will need someone who lives locally I expect, especially if they would be finishing quite late evening.

Looks like Home Childcarers in NI are very similar to those in England. It is just a registration system so that tax credits or childcare vouchers can be used.

HSC Trust gets mentioned, presume they are the people who register (like Ofsted in England). Maybe they have a list of people who are registered but I expect it may be similar to how Ofsted does it, just a list of registration codes, not name and contact details. Though maybe ask your local HSC or Early Years about if they have a list of providers.

Thanks cindy that's really useful.

I think your best bet may be trying to get a childminder who would be registered.

I put an ad in the Belfast Telegraph a few years ago for a nanny, and I was inundated with responses.
