Childminders Club: Question about variations

Hi,

At present I care for 3 after school children (1 being over 8) and 1 part-time 1 year old whose mum is a shift worker. Two of my own children are included in my numbers (the others being older) their ages are 2 and 7. Therefore I am full with after schoolchildren (none before school) and have 1 full time space and a part-time space which I can't really use as days differ each week.

I have been approached by a mum looking for care of a 1 year old and 5 year old. 1 year old is no problem as I have a full time space available.
Baby of shift-worker has part-time hours (maximum of 20 per week-different days and hours each week). Quite often hours are 7.30a.m. to 3.30 p.m. in which case the mum can meet me at school and take baby from me which would free up a space for the new 5 year old. However, there are occasions when she needs me between the hours of 2p.m. til 6.p.m. This would of course take me over my numbers for one and three quarter hours. Do you think there is any chance at all that Ofsted would allow this?

I did think about using an assistant for that time but don't know if they would increase my numbers because I have an assistant anyway.

If not I have thought about asking a childminder friend if she would be able care for little one for those times. This childminder is cutting down her times of childminding so she does have spaces. That is if mum is agreeable.

I got a bit confused trying to work out what you need - sorry!! However, if you are asking for a variation because you want to take on new business, Ofsted are unlikely to agree.

Why is the 5 yo in your numbers?

Can you have 3 under 5?

Do you have your own children?

mum2akebk · 15/09/2006 12:38

Sorry, previous post bit long and waffling I think.

On my books I have (will include my own children)

Daughter 2 years
Baby 1 year 16/20 hours per week. Days/hours vary as mum shiftworker. Has required mainly 7.00-3.30, although occasionally 2.00-6.00p.m.

Daughter 7 years
Boy 7 years Mon-Fri Afterschool 3.30-5.30
Girl 5 years Tues-Fri Afterschool 3.15-6.00
Girl 8 years Mon-Weds Afterschool 3.30-4.45

Have had an enquiry for siblings:-
Boy 1 year Mon,Weds,Thurs,Fri 7.30-6.30 p.m.
Brother 5 years Before & After school above
hours.

I will occasionally be over my numbers by one schoolchild on a Weds-Fri.

Is there any chance Ofsted will agree to this. If I had an assistant would they increase my number by 1 to allow this?

(Sorry-have realised I'm not too good at explaining this.)

Do you have 2 under 5's on your cert or 1 under 5?

Katymac · 15/09/2006 12:41

Oh so it is the 5-8 age randge sorry

Katymac · 15/09/2006 12:43

I'd just try for a variation

You have room for the 1yr old and would have too many after school children....sometimes

It's worth a request

mum2akebk · 15/09/2006 17:34

Thanks, I'll try that and hope for the best.
