Hi all
Just wanted some advice...
Had a 1yr old today with temp of 39C. This is not the first time he has been sent with a high temp.
I usually say if the child has a temp they can come provided they can cope with daily routine and are ok when dosed up. And obviously no other symptoms. However I am now thinking could it be easier just to exclude children if there temp goes above a certain number. But what would be too high? LO today obviously too poorly but was still sent so thought it may. Be easier to say to mum if temp is still over.... He can't come.
TIA

I think temp that is over 38.5 or not controlled by calpol and they should be at home. That's our nursery's policy.

Lindy2 · 14/07/2014 20:19

39 is very high. 38.5 is classed as a significant temperature. In my policies I specify that if a child seems too unwell or if their temperature is 38.5 or higher they can not attend until they are well again.

39 is very high! I don't take them with anything over 38 of that helps. You don't know what virus they are harbouring and it might go round your setting very quickly.

Part of the eyfs says you must keep all children healthy which means not knowingly exposing them so such an illness.

Thanks for your replies.
I think I will say that if temp still above 38 I can't have him.

I phone parents to collect for anything over 38

NickyEds · 15/07/2014 08:07

I don't think that above 38 would be in any way unreasonable. I was actually told 38=Calpol 39=hospital(Hmm) but then DS is younger. The parents of your other charges will be grateful.

Stickhasgrownup · 15/07/2014 21:15

It's just so hard to say you can't have them. I need to toughen up I think. I just worry about parents looking elsewhere if I'm not totally flexible and always willing to have them. But you are right I need to think of the other charges and my own children.
Didn't have him today but think he will be back tomorrow even though will still be poorly. Will just have to reiterate that I will call if temp goes above 38 at any point. Need to be strong and stick to my guns

I also have in my policies that if they are not fit to take part in our normal activities they can't come.
