Insuring Au Pair on a car - how much?

We're considering an au pair, as we live in a semi rural area, they will need to be able to driving, but I'm guessing we will need to buy a cheap run around for them. I'm worried about insurance costs, has anyone done it and can give me an idea of insurance costs, I'm not in an area with high insurance costs normally.

We were in London and ours went from c250 to about 600. It was worth getting someone over 21, and who had had a driving licence for over a year and driven regularly.

South east, about £600 too. Mostly it is because you own the car and have it insured in your name, but they are a named driver.

I will have to put them as the main driver, as they will be, I will be named driver on there as well, but I will have my own car. Anyone know if it makes a difference where the au pair is from?

You need to talk to a broker it needs to be insured as owned by you so if it is written off the cheque comes to you. There are ways of doing this, but au pairs are never straight forward policies.
EU driving licence is slightly better than others.

get someone over 22. It makes a massive difference to insurance costs

Admiral multi car will let you be the main driver on up to two cars.

I insure an au pair and find it costs about £30 a month for someone over 22 from Europe with a clean licence. Australians cost more bizarrely.
