The nursery DD uses is moving to another premises next year, a few miles from where it is now. It's further away from where we live and will be very hard for me and DH to get her there/pick her up - we both work in the City and need to catch early trains. There aren't many local alternatives and I wondered whether a childminder would pick up and drop off DD? Or is that like using one purely as a taxi service?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

you proberly could find a cm to do the drop off and pick ups.as a cm myself i would consider doing it if i had the time available between school runs.
its def worth asking about, but bear in mind that most cms have a minimum rate thaey charge.eg, i charge for a minimum of 2 hours and i think thats v resaonably so you could end up paying more.
hth.

Thanks for that. Definitely wouldn't mind paying more for it.

A childminder might do this, as long as the hours involved don't stop her from filling that space with another more profitable child. A lot of childminders have children of their own to get ready for school in the morning plus families to cater for in the evenings with children coming & going at various times.
Have you considered actually using a childminder for a whole day, as you might find that easier than asking them to do drop offs & pickups.
As your dd goes to nursery she is under 5, I don't know if she is 3 yet or not & therefore able to make use of the nursery education grant, but if she is you might well find a childminder who is accreditied to do this, or you could enrol her into a playgroup for those sessions, & the childminder would then drop her off & pick her up from the playgroup. This being a common practice.
I would contact your local Childrens Information Service & get a list of childminders with vacancies from them & start ringing around to find out who will do the pickups & drop offs first, & if not think about using a childminder & playgroup combination.

I'm in Wallington, Surrey. Had thought about a childminder for the whole day, but to be honest, her nursery is really nice and I think she gets a lot out of it. (That's not to say she wouldn't from a CM, but you know what I mean...)
