Advice on a nanny interview in a neutral place, please!

Hi everyone,
I am a nanny looking for a new job, I have been asked to meet a Mum in a neutral place for an interview, we are going to a cafe/bar for coffee one evening.
I have only ever had interviews at houses, I really don't mind meeting on neutral ground but it makes me a little more nervous!
I have her number and we have agreed to meet outside the place.
I'm just wondering if anybody has any advice for me regarding this?
Thank you. Smile

Hi Nervous
I think it is ok for a first interview. Get a friend to go along with you, both arrive early and sit friend elsewhere for interview.
You will need to explain that you wouldn't be able to commit to the job until after a second interview in family home.

i have had interviews in coffee shops and pubs, esp if family moving down from london and therefore dont have a house local

on the other hand maybe they dont want tons of people at their home and doing 1st interview at public place makes sense for both nanny and parent and if you both like each other and want to go further then 2nd interview at their home

Recently I had a nanny interview in a pub! It was a sunny day so the pub was PACKED plus she wanted to sit in the garden. It was so noisy there I couldn't properly concentrate on the actual "interview". I wouldn't agree to an interview in a pub any more. A quiet coffee shop - maybe. Just make sure you pick a quiet spot where you can hear each other well.
Some people are worried about inviting strangers to their houses, I guess, especially if it's their first nanny.
Good luck with the interview!

Thank you all, I completely understand why she wants a neutral place and that's absolutely fine!
I think I'm just nervous as I've never done it this way before, although this does seen a very sensible way to do it!
I'm nervous about silly things, for example not knowing who she is/what she looks like, is it still a formal interview?
I'm sure it'll be absolutely fine and I'm worrying about nothing!
Xx
