'Borrowing' a nanny for occasional use

My friend has a nanny for her dc but doesn't need her on occasions, eg when her family is on holiday. It would help me to have use of her nanny on these occasions as my dm who does the lion's share of my childcare could have a break. What would the legalities of using a nanny in this way be? Can I simply pay her by the hour as you would do a babysitter or would there be more to take into consideration, eg tax, insurance, holiday pay. I don't want tp do anything illegal or immoral. It would only be for about 10 days work a year though so don't want too much hassle either. TIA

As an ex nanny, I would want to have a break when the family I work for are away! Has she expressed an interest in working during her holidays?

Yes she wants to do it for the extra money. Also she has many weeks holiday from the other family as they teach and she doesn't get paid for all the time off.

It's up to the nanny. Most nannies take their holidays when the families take theirs (if the nanny doesnt go along to work).
If the nanny chooses to work during the holidays then expect to pay a bit more then her normal rate. Most nannies will do it cash in hand. You can ask. Worst thing they can say is no.

Thanks but the nanny has already said that she is keen to do the extra work. My concern is more about if it is legal to employ someone on a 'cash in hand' casual basis.

She could probably work for you on a self-employed basis. So you just pay her 'cash in hand' and she should declare that along with any earnings she makes babysitting etc. as well.

In reality, if it's only for a few days a year she probably won't bother, but that's her lookout not yours.
