Hi I currently work as a day nanny and am looking into night nannying for a couple of nights a week to earn some extra money as saving for a mortgage. Could I please have some advice on how to get started and what qualifications I need. Thanks H x

i do a lot of night nanny/mat work

99% of mine are through agencies tho also word of mouth, all my families want the basics like childcare qual/years of nanny exp/first aid/dbs/public liabilty

best way to find work is through agencies, tho as you are new to it, you may find it hard to get your first job,as usually parents want experiences ones and wont look at your cv iyswim

so start low, agencies will give you a ball park figure what other exp nn are charging and to get your first nn job offer your services for a lot less/agency may advise you and hopefully you will get one

a childcare qual and/or mnt/nest/sleep training course helps

VITAL is baby exp and ideally new born, tho again some famillies are less fussy if say 2/3/4th child

nn can be demanding and tiring and if have a tiny/newborn baby you are likely to be up/awake a lot of the night to begin with while you get them into a routine and if you are working daytime you may find it hard to leave n family at 7am and be at work for a full days work striaght after

i work part time so i make sure the nights i work i generally wont work the nextday, or do a 6/8 week night placement then work days for a while

I agree with what blondes says, experience is important with new borns and then try to build a relationship with agencies.

Please make sure you don't spread yourself too thin. It is incredibly hard to do nights with a new born and then do a day job. It may be easier to look for weekend evening work or bb sitting during the day.

If I was looking for a night nanny, I'd be looking for someone with experience and definitely someone who would be well rested during the day, not doing a second job.

Just wondering how much work is out there for this type of work? I am based near se london.

I echo everything blondes says parents like to feel confident to leave baby/ies and get some sleep so want experience references and first aid/paed life support.

I feel there are 2 types of night nanny people look for someone who can come in take over baby care for night and that's it.the other is as above but in addition be able to support and advise in baby care routines etc etc.
