Hi

I have recently employed a nanny and have been told that I will need public liability insurance. Is this true?

Thanks

Probably- I employ people with money given by socail services (to help in my home) and they insist on public liability insurance.

I looked into this when we employed a nanny for a while. I was concerned about insurance should she accidentally cause serious damage to our house - and insurance for her if she was injured whilst working for us. (my brothers ds accidentally whacked thier nanny with a tambourine, causing £100s-worth of dental work!). In fact our household insurance covered the family and 'domestic servants' - which they said included a nanny!
Not sure why she would need public liability....

x-posyed with JJ, so there is obviously a precedent for it! And what about Employers Liability?

The local SALT college wouldn't let me put up a notice asking for volunteers either becuase they said I needed public liability insurance and volunteers weren't covered- or something!

God knows, I've never understood it either. Luckily SS just told me which policy I had to get.

We have Employer's liability included in our normal house insurance (just like Blu) - this cover our stuff damaging our nanny.
Nanny has insurance (paid by us) from Micheal Morton, which covers her damaging our kids etc.
