Hi

I have a parent who is usually a few days late with payment. But the last few weeks it's been getting later and later and she has dropped the kids off this morning saying she can't pay me for last week as she has no money and will try and get a loan today. This is worrying for me as my husband gave up work a few weeks ago and it will be a couple of more weeks before he's back at work.

Help.......what can i do!!

Well I would say (& have previously said) no money - no minding

However I am able to replace children quite easily

You need to think carefully about what you are going to say - because if she takes offence she will remove the children and leave owing you money

I think you need to tell her that you expect the money by a certain date, and if she doesnt get it to you for then say you cant afford to look after the child for nothing. she may not pay you what she owes though.
Ask her if it would help her to pay you each day instead of a large ammount at the end of the week/month.
You need to talk to her about it and try find something to help you both.

I agree with you Katymac but I don't have anyone to replace them and with DH not working need a income. I know I will get paid but it's when!

Auntymandy - Think I will give it till the end of the week and see what she says about getting a loan.

I know she is going through a bad patch with husband at the moment and he's refusing to give her any money.

Trouble is she is going to find it hard each month. Can she pay you weekly?

Saz73 · 05/09/2006 12:45

She does pay me weekly. I've spoken to her and she says she will pay me for the 3 wks on friday. Going to have to take her word for it. But have discussed if no payment I will be advertising her spaces. I know it's hard but everyone keeps telling me it's a business I'm running and not a charity.

Do you charge a late payment fee? Probably sounds mean when you know someone's having trouble paying in the first place but having been in debt myself I know that when you've got a pile of bills & barely half the funds you need to pay them, its the people who harrass & add on charges who get paid first. When you're nice & understanding you end up at the bottom of the queue.

I have in my contracts that I will charge £5 per child per day until they have paid in full, plus any additional expenses I incur as a result of their late payment. In practice I usually say that if they pay in full within 48 hours I will waive the late fees.
