a health check? Some websites I've come across say yes and some say no, so I figure that this is the best place to ask as a lot of you have been through the process!

I think yes if you're going on the Early Years register, if you just have over 5s then no. Same with the pre-reg home visit.

Cindy34 · 02/06/2014 20:31

If a nanny, no.

Pistachio14 · 02/06/2014 20:32

Ok, what does the health check involve for the Early Year register?

It involves paying your GP a massive sum of money to write a letter saying you're fit.

Pistachio14 · 02/06/2014 21:11

So they don't even run tests? I'm imagining things like lung capacity tests and urine samples!

No but if your GP flags anything up, and they do tell them everything! including my bother with constipation you might have to see one of their doctors.

Pistachio14 · 02/06/2014 21:22

That's ridiculous, but ok thanks for the information :)

Annoying thing is, if you wanted to be signed off sick because of these things they wouldn't do it, but telling ofsted about any minor health niggle could scupper your chances to work and earn.

AMI88 · 03/06/2014 16:11

Mine cost £60, my friend who CMs in a different region was charged £75!! It is crazy, but necessary! X

Pistachio14 · 03/06/2014 22:57

AMI88 - is that just for a health declaration form?!

OP posts:
AMI88 · 03/06/2014 23:13

Yes!! My gp said because it was out of their normal duties they charge a fee, which I understood but my mouth dropped when he said £60- especially as he was done by the time I walked back from ATM, took him all of 15mins!!
As I say I don't think there is set amount because I've known CM been charged more/less! X

Health check is only for childminders. Nannies don't need one (we're on the voluntary register so different/fewer requirements).

Pistachio14 · 04/06/2014 22:04

Brilliant, thanks for all the help everyone
