Childminder for my lovely dinosaur loving boy

Hi

I'm not sure what to do as I have been through so many childminders in the last couple of years. We live in Islington, DS goes to school near Whitechapel tube station. The local childminders have been really horrible, saying right in his hearing that he is naughty and doesn't listen and they are quitting!

DS is genuinely a lovely child.

He is a lovely boy and we once had a lovely young childminder who would take him home on the bus and would let him draw and eat apples and biscuits and play games on her phone and they got on really well. However, she has moved away and since then I've struggled to find a childminder who can cope for some reason.

Most since then have refused to travel by bus, with a tired boy who has been at school since 8am, being made to walk for 30 mins equals a grumpy boy I suppose. He gets caught up looking at ants and spiders if you walk along the pavement too, so it's definitely quicker to travel with him by bus, but I assume this is the same with all young children. DS has been diagnosed with ADHD now but really, unless you're trying to teach him maths, or similar, if you're taking him home you just might learn something new about dinosaurs or other animals! Smile

If there's anyone out there, I even asked CAMHS if there is a highly recommended childminder list about, I really need someone who can pick DS up after school and bring him back towards Islington on the 205 bus.

Please forgive my asking for a childminder on here, I have been calling childminders every couple of months and just need to get through to the summer holidays now!

Also ring your local council early tears team they jold lists of cms

I'm unclear. Are they taking him back to your house or theirs? If it's your house they're a nanny and if it's their house then they're a CM and will decide how they do the school run. I'm surprised that none of them have been able to cope if you have explained everything up front.

I would love to learn some new dinosaur facts, but I'm nowhere near you.

I think you mean a nanny. Childminders are home-based and would pick up from schools local to them and take them back to their own houses, not to yours.

You need to just put an ad on gumtree, which costs £25ish and state in the ad with your little boy has ADHD, so they know what to expect.

make sure with your next childcare that you let them know exactly what worked with the young childminder you liked too.

Incidentally, does your son now have a statement? If so, you may be top of the waiting list for a closer school.

OK, thank you for the advice: I'm going to advertise on gumtree, it's all so expensive, I don't think they do want parents to work, its going to cost me £35 to advertise and then I usually end up paying between 40 and 50 pounds per week.

Good point, Karoleann but we're waiting on a statement now. Smile

Your little boy sounds lovely, and stopping and looking at ants is one of the best parts of any walk! :)

Good luck in your search for childcare.
