Friend of mine has only recently started childminding. She has been asked to do three days in September to cover another CM's holidays. She has 2 dds of her own, and minds 8yr old twins and a 3 year old. The cover would be for 2 boys. She says she is able to do it as her DH is home that week, so he will technically be looking after their DDs, leaving her free for the 5 mindees.
I have never heard of anyone doing this, is she able to do this does anyone know?

she should call ofsted and they will decide wether it can be done as her dh will relieve her of their own two i should think it would be fine so long as they auth it?!

8 year old twins wouldn't be in ratio, so it's only her 2 dds , the 3 year old and the 2 additonal boys to take account of.

It will depend on what the registration certificate says, plus ages of the children concerned. The registration certificate takes account of her own children. Need to know ages of all children really to be able to advise, plus what her usual registration terms are - as she may be limited by space.

I don't think having DH at home will make a difference. However, if DH took his children out all day, then maybe it would free up sufficient space ratio wise... though it would need to be checked with Ofsted.

Those are my thoughts.

It's not OFSTED, its the Care Commission - sorry should have said, and in Scotland it's children older than 8 who are included in ratios!

In England this could not happen

DH & I are both reg childminders

Each of out ratio allows for DD

so working by myself I could have 1 under 1 total of 3 under 3 but only 5 under 8

DH had the same

So in ths school holidays if DD was out with DH we were still only allowed 5 under 8 the fact that dd was "out of the picture" was irrelevant - after some questioning they did allow that if DD was abroad they might in special circumstances allow the remaining parent to have the extra child - but if dd was out with her dad or staying at G'Parents she would still count in the registered numbers

Hope that made sense??

on your certificate it will say how many children you are allowed at any one time this does not include your own children
so mine says 5 children (3 under 5 and 2 under 8) my boys are 9 and 10 so ofted have taken them into account
just because her dh is home makes no diff to her numbers as her own children are not included
