Unregistered Childminder - Would you report it?

Yesterday I noticed an advert on an internet site from someone who was offering childcare during the day, at their home. The advert didn't mention if they were a Registered Childminder or not, so I made some enquiries with them with regard to what they were offering.

They said that would provide 1/2 day or full-day care, at their home. So they would therefore be exceeding the 2-hour limit, and thus need to be a Registered Childminder. I asked them if they were registered, and they said that they weren't.

I've advised them of the legislation, and given them contact details of local CIS so they can find out about becoming a childminder. I have sent a request to the website administrator asking for their advert to be removed, as it wasn't legal.

Given that Ofsted would probably just tell them the legislation, advise them to become registered, is it worth reporting them, or would you just leave it and see if they continued to advertise as a childminder?

i would at least contact CIS.
i recently put an ad on another board, but clearly stated when i would be able to mind from as im not yet registered(had inspection today)
i will only be able to charge 2 hours for full days until im reg as i dont want to lose the mindee, so i dont agree with this.
maybe the website vcould put a note at top saying please ensure all childcarers are registered and insured to look after your child..??

Hi Nannynick, I think you were right to tell them to register and I probably would speak to CIS too. Is this person in our local area???

lemonaid · 31/08/2006 14:10

I would leave it for the time being. As you said, all Ofsted do for a first report is write to them advising them of the legal requirement, and you've done that yourself now.

no I wouldn't leave it.

us childminders are registered for a reason, this person could be anyone

Agree. Ofsted should contact them and tell them to register and then if they don't, they can follow it up!
