How did you plan everything, get everything sorted? we won't be moving for at least 6 months but just wondered. also i have to be careful because if i move out of this area to a different part of town would i lose my mindee's, did any of you have problems with this?

Found this thread from back in Feb, may be of help: Childminders Moving House

Don't know what current rules are regarding moving house, anyone know for sure what the rules are regarding being reinspected before restarting minding?

Not being a childminder myself can't answer your specific questions, though my gut feeling is that if you move too far (say even to other side of town), then you risk losing your current mindees. Perhaps mention it to the parents and see how far they would be prepared to travel, then you know where to start looking for the new house.

By my understanding you just move and then call ofsted to tell them, they will come and inspect shortly afterwards either a full inspection if you are due shortly or a shorter safety inspection if you have recently had one. I am moving shortly and have advised the parents i will be taking one day off. What else did you think you may need to do?

LoveMyGirls · 31/08/2006 09:24

i was thinking i would need more than 1 day off. i've never had my own home before but im thinking for what i can afford itys going to be a mess - need cleaning inside out and probably painting before i can run a business from there. i was thinking i would probably need a week off.

Watching this thread with interest as I now have a closed chain and the ball has started rolling. I chose to stay within the local area due to the school being where I want my ds to be and also, without my income, we can't afford the house (as in if I loose all mindees at once). I therefore chose an area that would mean not much difference to all parents (they come from different areas). Luckily so far everyone is happy to travel to the new place, I just have one more parent to tell but they are away at the moment.

My main concern is Ofsted - as with everything else, there doesn't seem to be one set rule - they all say something different. See if gooseegg comes on here, she will tell you what happened to her regarding this. She's due to move next week I think.

Good luck with it all and no doubt we'll chat on msn later Only 2 more days of my holiday left

That should be fine LMG's - just treat it like a normal week off (unless you've taken all the holiday you should?). I'm planning to take more than a day off, I'm saving the holiday I have left for this.
