2 days with cm, 1 in nursery - is this a good idea?

I've found a lovely cm but unfort she only has 2 days a week spare from next jan. I need 3. Would it be ok to do 2 with her and 1 in a nursery or another cm? Or even nanny at ours? Or would this be confusing?
We could risk just going with cm and hope she gets another day free as jan is far away still.
Any views?

How old is your DC?

Sorry he'll be 1. My first too. We also have option of nanny from next door who could do a day. I'm just now worried it will all be too different. But maybe 2 days cm 1 nanny would be better than 1 in nursery?

we did both, similar reason. I wasn't sure about it before we looked into it, but it turned out to be the beat of both worlds: three days of near 1:1 care (DS was her only charge during school hours) and 2 days of group of socialisation.

best, not beat!

I think the variety will be good. It may take him a bit longer to settle with each carer as he's with them for a shorter time, but otherwise he will adjust quickly. Just like he will adjust to some days being mummy days and other days being your work days.
I've often had charges that go to private nursery or CM for a morning a week when they are young to get used to being left, learning how to share without mum or nanny around etc.
Preschool is less of a shock to the system them! So I think that arrangement would be fine. Nice to have a nanny next door who can help.

Around here most nurseries wont take a child for less than 2 sessions a week, 1 full day would count as 1 session iykwim. If it's the same where you live this might affect your decision and the nanny next door might be a good solution.

I should add that after we had to switch to another CM (the one we loved had family commitments) who could take DS all five days, she suggested (and we agreed) we put him into nursery 2 mornings a week, to keep him socialised with his own age group. She'd had mainly older children and they were letting him get away with murder.

Oh thanks! Put my mind at ease. I just have no idea if it would have been a good or stupid idea! But sounds like its doable. I hope to ease him in from 8 months - morning a week building up so hopefully won't be too stressful

Hi another - we are also thinking of splitting our childcare like this - but for different reasons. My DD is approaching 10 months. Would you mind letting me know how you get on?

By the way our nursery requires a minimum of 2 sessions so make sure you check that out.

I have two children that do this. It works really well for one and unsettles the other one. It's worth a try.
