nannies and Christmas breaks

What do those of you with nannies do over the Christmas week (i.e. between Christmas and New Year)? Neither DH nor I will be working that week. Our nanny has all BH off, I'm thinking about the other days (I think there are 3 other days).
Do you ask nanny to come in anyway (I'm sure I don't want to do this)?
Or give her the days off out of her Annual Leave allowance?
Or give her the days off 'free' on top of A/L?

Thanks

I always take them as annual leave.

nannyj · 29/08/2006 20:17

I have to take them as annual leave too.

I usually take it as annual leave. I have contracted 4 weeks holiday which I choose but which has to include Christmas week. But I usually end up have 7-9 weeks leave in total as my employers get more! It depends on how your leave works I guess, if you have to take it as leave then she should too, if you have it as extra then maybe be generous and give it too her on top or offer her half as extra days! I think it also depends on how much you appreicate your nanny, my boss (I hope!) appreciates me and therefore I get the odd bonus!

i always get Xmas to new year off for free in addition to my 6 weeks anuual leave.

I count myself lucky!

IF i was working i would treat it more as 'fun'.... i think we would spend most of the day painting christmas pictures and baking christmassy cakes and things... and doing lots of REALLY fun things!

I give it to her as part of her annual leave. (just as my company gives it to me as part of my annual leave)

Our contract states 23 days AL plus bank hols of which 3 days must be taken over the cgristmas period.

QueenPeaHead · 31/08/2006 07:59

part of annual leave (except bank hols obviously which are extra)

pol26 · 31/08/2006 14:52

I used to take them as part of my holiday.

fridayschild · 31/08/2006 16:49

we see how we are going with the annual leave total; sometimes it's extra to her 4 weeks, sometimes it's within it

also it depends if we are going to be at home or somewhere else in that period

I have virtually always worked between Christmas and New Year for 20 years. I have usually found my nanny wants that time off so we've had to juggle things a bit.
