Only had a nanny a month and she has left us - feel gutted

She was our first nanny and gave a week's notice as she was still within her first month.
Apparently she has found a full time job (she did three days for us) as her other family said they wouldn't need her in September when their children go to school.
We did everything right, went through agency, checked references ect.
Why do I feel so sad for my DC and so betrayed?
Not sure I go through the whole interviewing process again. What is the next one does it too? Our DC were settled and happy with her.

Betrayed? No.

This is a job and she has a right to move on as you would in your job.

Sorry you've taken it too personally.

If you went through an agency do they have a replacement guarantee? I'd be on the phone to them straight away telling them what I thought about placing a nanny who wanted a FT job in a PT role.

So when the nanny accepted your 3 day job, they were doing another job other days. That job subsequently has ended (or they have been told will end) and so they have looked for a full time job - is that right?

If so, wonder how the other family are feeling as well, if they gave advance notice that the job would end in September but the nanny then got another job very quickly, they will also need to find alternative childcare.

Not sure there is anything you could have done to spot this possibility or prevented it happening. If a nanny works part time, they may or may not need to do 2 or more jobs. The other job ending causes the problem, as that then leaves nanny to fill that working time and there may not be the jobs around which fit with the days they do for you.

It is a shame and a pain. Children start to settle with someone and then they leave, not great but children are often resilient and will get to know someone else.

Any other candidates for your job? Anyone you have interviewed still looking and may be worth considering?

I think you're just very unlucky. You'd employed someone who had a job the other two days and the other job ended.
I've had a five part-time nannies and the job has never ended in that way.

Guess there is no way I can know for sure whether a nanny is going to leave us for a full time job again is there?
I just wish she had said something before 'here is my one week's notice'.
I think it was wrong of her to be looking for a full time job before she even started with us and not at least say so.
But we are in the situation we are in now.
Heart sinks at starting whole process again though

If she'd said so, would you have employed her?

You don't know when the other family gave her noticez

Seems weird that she literally started your 3 day job an within a week or so she found out she was losing her 2 day job

Wonder why she didn't speak to current 2 day job when looking for yours and they would have said she was being made redundant and looked for a 5 day job rather then another 3 day

Or why she didn't look for another 2 - tho obv with 2 part time Jobs you need to reliese that they do finish

Easier to work for 1 family

Betrayed is a bit ott tho in the end that's what a probation period is for and she was quite within her rights to leave

Bet agency is cross with her as they will need to refund your fee unless thu replace her

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/05/2014 23:02

I'm one of the seems few nannies who wants to and is happy to work part time - perfect job is 3 days tho don't mind four
