Hi
My friend is NNEB registered and we were looking at her being a nanny for my 2 smallest dc.
I would like if possible to claim for this to obviously help hugely towards the cost.
So ive approached my friend ( who is older and not particularly keen to jump through hoops but happy to register if easy enough to help me and do it all properly ).
This is what I understand so far >
She needs a paed first aid cert which she has and it is valid.
She needs public liability insurance-how much would this be roughly as id pay this for her ?
She needs to get Ofsted registered. This will cost approx. £110 + £50-£60 for CRB checks. Is this literally something we can pay for and do when showing her NNEB certificate or will it involve a lot more ?

Then me, how much can I pay her before paying tax-it will only be 1 day a week so may be under the threshold and she really doesn't want paying much.
Do I need to reg as an employer and pay NI ?
If say I only ever pay her £100 a week which I will as only need 1 day do I still need to reg as an employer ?
Im only asking because I didn't think id get any tax credits back with her being a nanny but it seems if she registers with Ofsted I can get a lot back. My marriage of almost 25 years has recently ended so finances have now become much more important and I need to claim if and what I can.
Id really like this friend to look after my dc so if anyone has been in similar situation would really appreciate some advise.
TIA x

Depends if she does any other work - think £192ish before paying tax ie £10k if normal tax allowance

She needs to pay for insurance - think £71 if ofsted reg - or else if you / she is claim on it - you would be suing yourself - that's how insurers look at it

Don't know about other things - ie registering as employer - but sure you do and yes would need to pay ni - sure nanny nick can help advise and clarify

The NNEB may be enough to become registered but doing Common Core may be needed. Perhaps email Ofsted and ask if NNEB is being accepted without any more recent training.

Taxation will depend on your friends other job/income.

You will need to produce payslips, have a formal contract, you may need Employers liability insurance if not covered by your home contents policy.

Tax credits will take into account the pay plus employers national insurance when doing a childcare costs value. They may include payroll admin cost but you need to check.

You can get UP TO 70% of childcare cost paid. However it is UP TO so you may not get that high a percentage, no idea how they calculate it. Also there is a weekly max, though expect you will be below that.

See HMRC leaflets WTC2 and WTC5 for info about childcare cost for tax credits.
